ADDRESS BY THE PRESIDENT.

In opening the session, the President briefly addressed the Chamber as follows:

One hundred and three years have elapsed since the organization of the Institution, and in that long period of time it has numbered on its lists of members many of the most eminent and respected of American merchants. Its influence on the interests of commerce has been felt and acknowledged, not alone in our own country, but throughout the commercial world.
