1 "Broad silks" is the trade designation for woven fabrics in the piece, composed wholly or in chief value of silk, over 12 inches in width. Under the acts of 1890 and 1894, imports of broad silks were listed as "dress and piece goods"; these were recorded by value only. For details of broad silks imported under the acts of 1913 and 1922 see secondary Table 1205-A, 1205-B, 1205-C, 1205-D, and 1205-E.

2 The quantity figures for the years 1898 to 1906, inclusive, are not quite complete because imports of fabrics weighing not more than one-third ounce per square yard and on which the duty was less than 50 per cent ad valorem were not recorded in pounds. Values thus included in the table without corresponding quantities were as follows: 1898, $22,540; 1899, $6,423; 1900, $23,756; 1901, $44,882; 1902, $34,494; 1903, $16,335; 1904, $18,677; 1905, $5,061; 1906, $6,663.
