Ordered, That the committee on military affairs, to whom was referred the petition of William and Robert Patterson, of Baltimore, be discharged from the further consideration thereof.

The President communicated the memorial of Joseph Nourse, Register of the Treasury of the United States, praying an increase of compensation, as stated in the memorial, which was read. On motion by Mr. Fromentin,

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee to whom was referred on the 12th instant, the bill entitled "An act for the relief of Joseph Wheaton," to consider and report thereon by bill or otherwise.

The bill entitled "An act to authorize the State of Tennessee to issue grants and perfect titles on

certain entries and locations of lands therein described," was read the second time.

On motion by Mr. Roberts,

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee appointed the 7th of December, on the memorial of the Legislative Council and House of Representatives of the Mississippi Territory, to consider and report thereon.

The bill making further appropriations for the year 1816, was read the second time.

The bill entitled "An act to alter certain parts of the act providing for the government of the Missouri Territory," was read the second time. On motion,

Resolved, That it be referred to a select committee to consider and report thereon.

Ordered, That Mr. Morrow, Mr. Ruggles, and Mr. Mason, of N. H. be the committee.

The bill entitled "An act authorizing the payment of a sum of money to James Levins," was read the second time.

The bill entitled "An act providing for the distribution of one hundred thousand dollars among the captors of the Algerine vessels captured and restored to the Dey of Algiers," was read the second time.

The bill entitled "An act for the relief of William Crawford, Frederick Bates, and William Garrard," was read the second time.

The bill entitled "An act providing for the sale of the tract of land at the Lower Rapids of Sandusky river," was read the second time.

The bill entitled "An act providing for the sale of a tract of land at the British fort at the Miami of the Lake, at the foot of the Rapids, and for other purposes," was read the second time.

The bill entitled "An act for the free importation of stereotype plates, and to encourage the printing and gratuitous distribution of the Scriptures by the bible societies within the United States," was read the second time.

On motion,

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee appointed on so much of the message of the President of the United States, as relates to finance and an uniform national currency, to consider and report thereon.

The amendments to the bill entitled "An act to enable the people of the Indiana Territory to form a Constitution and State Government, and for the admission of such State into the Union on an equal footing with the original States," having been reported by the committee correctly engross ed, the bill was read a third time as amended.

Resolved, That this bill pass with amendments Ordered, That the Secretary request the concurrence of the House of Representatives therein.

The amendment to the bill entitled "An act to abolish the existing duties on spirits distilled withIn the United States and to lay other duties in

lieu of those at present imposed on licenses to distillers of spirituous liquors," having been reported by the committee correctly engrossed, the bill was read a third time as amended.

Resolved, That this bill pass with an amend

ment.

Ordered, That the Secretary request the concurrence of the House of Representatives therein.

Mr. Brown, from the committee to whom the subject was referred, reported a bill to authorize the issuing of a grant to major general Jackson for a tract of land; and the bill was read.
