titled "An act for the relief of the widow and children of Charles Dolph, deceased," a bill entitled "An act authorizing the payment of a sum of money to John T. Courtney and Samuel Harrison,or their legal representatives," and a bill entitled "An act for the relief of Charles Levaux Trudeau," in which bills they request the concurrence of the Senate.

They have also passed the bill which originated in the Senate, entitled "An act authorizing the sale of a lot of ground belonging to the United States, situated in the town of Knoxville, in the State of Tennessee."

They recede from their amendment to the bill entitled "An act to increase the pension of William Munday."

They have also passed the bill entitled "An act providing for the settlement of certain accounts against the library of Congress, and for other purposes," with amendments, in which they request the concurrence of the Senate. And he withdrew.

The ten bills last brought up for concurrence were read.

Ordered, That they severally pass to the second reading.

The President signed the three enrolled bills last reported to have been examined, and they were delivered to the committee to be laid before the President of the United States.

Agreeably to the order of the day, the Senate

resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the joint resolution directing medals to be struck, and, together with the thanks of Congress, presented to major general Harrison and governor Shelby, and for rher purposes.Mr. Varnum was requested to take the chair. The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the coneration of the joint resolution authorizing the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives to adjourn their respective Houses on the 22d day of April, 1816.

On motion by Mr. King,

Ordered, That the further consideration thereof be postponed until Saturday next.

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill entitled "An act for organizing the general staff, and making further provision for the army of the United States," and the bill having been amended the President reported it to the House accordingly. On motion by Mr. Lacock,

Ordered, That the further consideration thereof be postponed until Monday next.

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill entitled “ An act for the liquidation of certain claims and for other purposes," together with the amendments reported thereto by the select committee; and the bill having been amended, the President reported it to the House accordingly.

On motion by Mr. Roberts,

To concur in the first amendment proposed, amended as follows:

"Section 1, line 7, after 'casualty,' insert' and in all cases where officers or agents of the militia, whether in the line or staff, may have accounts to settle with the government of the United States, and difficulties shall arise under existing laws from loss of vouchers, or from unavoidable casualty."

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill entitled "An act supplementary to the act to provide additional revenues for defraying the expenses of government and maintaining the public credit by laying a direct tax upon the United States, and to provide for asssessing and collecting the same," together with the amendments reported thereto by the select committee; and the amendments having been agreed to, the President reported the bill to the House accordingly.

On the question to concur in the following amendment proposed,

Add to the end of the bill the following section: "Sec. Provided always and be it further enacted, That the equalization and apportionment of the direct tax made in the year eighteen hundred and fifteen, by the board of principal assessors for the State of Delaware, in virtue of the before recited act, entitled "An act to provide additional revenues for defraying the expenses of government and maintaining the public credit by laying a direct tax upon the United States, and to provide for the assessing and collecting the same," shall not be in force or have any effect as it relates to
