The Senate resumed the consideration of the motion made the 9th instant, for the appointment of a committee to inquire into the expediency of revising and digesting the several acts of Congress, on the subject of naturalization, and agreed thereto and

Ordered, That Mr. Dana, Mr. Wilson, and Mr. Lacock, be the committee.

Mr. Barbour from the committee, on military affairs, to whom was referred, the bill entitled "An act, for the relief of Jonathan B. Eastman," reported it without amendment; and the bill was considered as in committee of the whole: and

Ordered, That it pass to the second reading. Mr. Fromentin from the committee, reported the bill concerning evidence in cases of naturalization, correctly engrossed.

On motion by Mr. Talbot,

Ordered, That the further consideration thereof, be postponed until to-morrow.

The bill concerning the convention, to regulate the commerce between the territories of the United States, and his britannic majesty, was read the second time, and considered as in committee of the whole: and

On motion by Sanford,

The bill having been amended, the President reported it to the House accordingly.

On the question-" Shall the bill be engrossed, and read a third time?"

It was determined in the affirmative.

The bill last mentioned, having been reported by the committee correctly engrossed, was read a third time by unanimous consent.

Resolved, That this bill pass, and that the title thereof be, "An act, concerning the convention, to regulate the commerce, between the territories of the United States, and his Britannic Majesty."

Ordered, That the Secretary request the concurrence of the House of Representatives in this bill.

A message from the House of Representatives, by Mr. Dougherty, their Clerk.

Mr President-The House of Representatives have passed a bill entitled “An act, to authorize the discharge of James Jewett, from his imprisonment;" also a bill entitled "An act, for the relief of George S. Wise;" in which bills they request the concurrence of the Senate. And he withdrew.

The two bills last mentioned, were read.

Ordered, That they severally pass to the second reading.

After the consideration of executive business, the Senate adjourned to 11 o'clock to-morrow morning.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 11th, 1816.

The President communicated the memorial of the Legislature of the Indiana Territory, praying that David Floyd, and his associates, may be. au

thorized to open and work a certain salt spring in said Territory, as is stated in the memorial; which was read.

On motion by Mr. Brown,

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee appointed the 7th of December on the memorial of the Legislature of the Mississippi Territory, to consider and report thereon by bill or otherwise.

Mr. Horsey presented the petition of James Tilton, late physician and surgeon general of the army of the United States, praying an allow ance for rations, forage, quarters, postage, &c. while in the service of the United States, and an annual benevolence that may sustain him above want and dependence, in consideration of his long and faithful public services, as stated in the petition; which was read.

On motion by Mr. Horsey,

Resolved, That it be referred to a select committee, to consider and report thereon by bill or otherwise.

Ordered, That Mr. Horsey, Mr. Condit, and Mr. Tait, be the committee.

Mr. Tait, from the committee on naval affairs, communicated sundry documents relative to the operations of the squadron under command of commodore Decatur against the Barbary powers; which were read.

On motion by Mr. Tait,

Ordered, That they be printed for the use of

the Senate.

Mr. Taylor presented the petition of John Cannon and others, claimants of public lands, praying provision may be made by law for their indemnification, as stated in the petition: which was read.

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee to whom was referred, on the 26th December, the petition of Walter Sims, to consider and report thereon by bill or otherwise.

The bill, entitled "An Act, to authorize the discharge of James Jewett from his imprisonment," was read the second time.

On motion by Mr. Varnum,

Resolved, That it be referred to a select committee, to consider and report thereon.

Ordered, That Mr. Varnum, Mr. Daggett, and Mr. Macon, be the committee.

The bill, entitled "An Act for the relief of George S. Wise," was read the second time.

On motion by Mr. Tait,

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee on naval affairs, to consider and report thereon.

Mr. Bibb, from the committee on finance, and an uniform national currency, to whom was referred the bill, entitled " An Act to enlarge the time for ascertaining the annual transfers and changes, of property subject to the direct tax, and for other purposes," reported it without amendment.

Mr. Wilson, from the committee to whom was referred the bill, entitled "An Act for the

relief of Henry Fanning," reported it without

amendment.

The engrossed bill, relative to evidence in cases of naturalization, having been reported by the committee correct, was read a third time.

Resolved, That this bill pass, and that the title thereof be," An Act relative to evidence in cases of naturalization."

Ordered, That the Secretary request the concurrence of the House of Representatives in this bill.

The bill, entitled "An Act for the relief of John B. Eastman," was read a third time. Resolved, That this bill pass.

Ordered, That Secretary notify the House of Representatives accordingly.

Mr. Fromentin, from the committee to whom the subject was referred, reported a bill to fix the compensations of the officers of the Senate therein mentioned, and the bill was read.

Ordered, That it pass to the second reading.

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill confirming to the Navigation Company of New-Orleans the use and possession of a lot in the said city; and On motion by Mr. Fromentin,

The bill having been amended, the President reported it to the House accordingly.

On the question, "Shall this bill be engrossed and read a third time?"

It was determined in the affirmative.
