SUMMARY OF FOREIGN COMMERCE OF THE PORT OF NEW YORK AND OF THE UNITED STATES.

FISCAL YEAR 1912, WITH COMPARISONS

FOREIGN COMMERCE OF THE PORT OF NEW YORK

The total foreign commerce of the Port of New York during the fiscal year ending June 30, 1912, amounted to $1,915,644,233 an increase of $170,767,099 over the preceding year.

The total foreign commerce of the rest of the country was $2,160,148,842 an increase of $121,675,699.

In foreign commerce, therefore, New York has made a larger gain than the rest of the country during the last fiscal year. The total foreign commerce of the whole country (including New York) was $4,075,793,075 an increase of $292,442,898.

These totals include foreign and domestic exports and imports of merchandise, and gold and silver.

New York's percentage of foreign commerce of the United States was in the fiscal year 1912, 46.99 per cent. as compared with 46.12 per cent. in 1911. During the ten year period from 1900 to 1910, New York's share averaged 47.85 per cent.

New York's imports (including gold and silver) during the year ending June 30, 1912 were $1,008,140,996, or 57.63 per cent. of the total imports of the United States. All the other ports of the United States imported only $741,110,657 which was $267,030,339 less than was imported at New York. New York's merchandise imports (gold and silver excluded) were $975,744,320, which was $298,223,706 greater than those of all other ports.

New York's domestic exports (including gold and silver) were $883,804,248, or 38.72 per cent. of the total exports of the United States. All the other ports combined exported $1,398,533,427, or $514,729,179 more than New York.

Excluding gold and silver, New York's domestic merchandise exports were $802,476,214, which were $565,367,400 less than all the other ports combined.

There was also $23,698,989 of foreign merchandise exported from New York and $44,203,747 from all the other ports.
