"THE UNION MAN."

You can travel and travel o'er land and sea;
You can work in shops that pleaseth thee;
You can come and go, like the seasons do,
If union you are, through and through.
You don't have to stay and work overtime,
When you're feeling sick and not up in line.
You don't have to plead, "I'm not feeling well!"
But put on a sub, and say "Go to h—.”

You can stay away months and months at a time,
You can visit Spain, Italy, march on the Rhine,
And come back to business the very next day,
With a steady "sit," and decent pay.

If you know your business through and through,
You don't have to slave like non-unionists do.
You have hours to start, and hours to quit,
And things could not be more exquisite.
So here's to the union men-one and all;
To the Typographical "Big Six" ball.
May it bring the New Year joy and good cheer,
To God's almighty, heavenly sphere.
Brooklyn, N. Y.

FRANK PAYNE.

THE O. K. PROOF.

As we glance down the galley
When the take of life is set,
And find it full of mistakes,

Full of sadness and regret,
Let us hope the Great Proofreader
Will overlook the trifling things,
And in marking up our errors

Will find that most are rings.
No man sets an O. K. proof;
In each there's something wrong.
Some seem weak and foolish
And others mean and strong.
A transposition here and there,
A stray or misplaced space;
A doublet or an out, perhaps,

Each on his proof can trace.
But let's have the correction clean;
Be careful and be wise;
And let's wipe every error out
And show a clean revise.
Just one man had an O. K. proof,
With the margin clear and bright.
They nailed him to a wooden cross-
The price of being right.
