Mr. Rusk, from the committee, reported that they had examined and found duly enrolled the bill (S. 398) to grant the right of way to the Mobile and Ohio Railroad Company.

Mr. Fitzpatrick, from the Committee of Claims, to whom was referred the bill (H. R. 704) for the relief of Samuel Perry, reported it without amendment.

The Senate proceeded to consider, as in Committee of the Whole, the bill (H. R. 746) to authorize the coinage of twenty dollar and one dollar gold pieces at the mint of the United States and its branches; and having been amended, it was reported to the Senate, and the amendments were concurred in.

Ordered, That the amendments be engrossed and the bill read a third time.

The said bill was read a third time as amended.
Resolved, That it pass with amendments.

Ordered, That the Secretary request the concurrence of the House of Representatives in the amendments.

Mr. Davis, of Mississippi, from the Committee on Military Affairs, to whom was referred the bill (H. R. 747) to provide for the settlement of the accounts of public officers and others who may have received moneys arising from military contributions or otherwise in Mexico, reported it with an amendment.

The Senate proceeded to consider the said bill, as in Committee of Whole; and having been amended, it was reported to the Senate, and the amendment was concurred in.

Ordered, That the amendment be engrossed and the bill read a third time.

The said bill was read a third time as amended.

Resolved, That this bill pass with an amendment.

Ordered, That the Secretary request the concurrence of the House of Representatives in the amendment.

A message from the House of Representatives by Mr. Campbell, their Clerk:

Mr. President: The House of Representatives have passed the resolution from the Senate (S. 70) to fix the meaning of the second section of an act for changing the location of the land office in the Chippewa land district in the State of Wisconsin.

They concur in the amendment of the Senate to the bill (H. R. 754) making appropriations for the Post Office Department for the year ending the 30th of June, 1850..

The Speaker of the House of Representatives having signed ten enrolled bills and two enrolled resolutions, I am directed to bring them to the Senate for the signature of their President.

S. 295. An act to allow subsistence to certain Arkansas and other volunteers who have been prisoners of war in Mexico.

The Senate proceeded to consider the amendment of the House of Representatives to the bill (S. 299) to establish the collection district of Brazos de Santa Iago, in the State of Texas; and

Resolved, That they concur therein.

The Senate proceeded to consider their amendments, amended and disagreed to by the House of Representatives, to the bill (H. R. 695) making appropriations for the support of the army for the year ending the 30th of June, 1850; and

Resolved, That they disagree to the amendment of the House to the 10th amendment; insist on their 1st, 2d, 5th, 8th, 9th, and 11th amendments, disagreed to by the House of Representatives; and ask a conference on the disagreeing votes of the two Houses.

Ordered, That Mr. Davis, of Mississippi, Mr. Badger, and Mr. Rusk, be the committee on conference on the part of the Senate. Ordered, That the Secretary notify the House of Representatives thereof.

On motion by Mr. Douglas,

Ordered, That the Committee on Territories be discharged from the further consideration of the bill (H. R. 685) "to establish the territorial government of Upper California."

The Senate proceeded to consider the amendment of the House of Representatives to the amendments of the Senate to the bill (H. R. 700) to amend the act entitled "An act supplemental to the act for the admission of the States of Iowa and Florida into the Union;" and,

Mr. Hannegan, from the Committee on Foreign Relations, to

whom was referred the amendment of the House of Representatives to the bill (S. 343) to provide for carrying into effect the fifth article of the treaty between the United States and the Mexican republic for establishing the boundary line between them, reported

thereon.

The Senate proceeded to consider the said amendment; and,

R. 699) making appropriations for the naval service for the year ending 30th June, 1849; they disagree to the 1st, 2d, 3d, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 13th amendments of the Senate to the said bill; and concur in the 14th amendment of the Senate, with an amendment, in which they request the concurrence of the Senate. The Senate proceeded to consider their amendments, amended and disagreed to by the House of Representatives, to the bill last mentioned; and,

Resolved, That they insist on their amendments, disagreed to by the House of Representatives; disagree to the amendment of the House to their 14th amendment, and ask a conference on the disagreeing votes of the two Houses.
