"LESS."

Have yon noticed here of late
The people's predilection
For the little suffix "less,'
They show so much affection?
They use it in their business
And likewise in their play;
They want it in religion,

For it has come to stay.

So, if you'll take a moment, And look these stanzas through, You must confess the suffix "less" Is a word both tried and true. We have the horseless carriage, Which runs with noiseless gear, Aiding many a loveless marriage

With a breathless sire in rear.

We have the seedless orange
And the wireless telegraph;
We have the painless dentist

With gas to make you laugh.
We have the spineless cactus,
And the coreless apple tree;
We have the seedless raisin

And the stingless honey bee.

We have the wireless telephone,

We buy the beeless honey; And here of late, this fact I state, We were spending worthless money. We have soulless corporations,

That are pitiless toward the poor; We have the jobless thousands, Who beg from door to door. We shoot with smokeless powder, And smokeless coal we burn; We eat the clamless chowder, As on restless stools we turn. We write on pulpless paper, And open hingeless doors; We carry waxless tapers,

And walk on noiseless floors.
We have the odorless onion,

We have the fireless stove;
We have the Maxim noiseless gun
To keep robbers on the rove.

But we'll never be quite happy,
And shall always like to shirk,
Until some clever person
Invents some workless work.
Chicago, Ill.
