No. 788) entitled “An act to repeal chapter one hundred and forty-two of the Laws of eighteen hundred and fifty-four, entitled 'An act to regulate stage routes in the city of New York, and to provide for the formation of companies to operate the same," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on affairs of cities.

Also, a bill (Int. No. 789) entitled "An act to amend the Transportation Corporations Law, in relation to stage coach corporations," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

Mr. McCue introduced a bill (Int. No. 790) entitled "An act to confer jurisdiction on the Court of Claims to hear, audit and determine the alleged claim of Alice E. Smith as administratrix of the goods, chattels and credits of William L. Smith, whose death occurred while an inmate of the Manhattan State Hospital on or about the third day of November, nineteen hundred and

eight," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committed on the judiciary.

Committee on Taxation and Retrenchment introduced a bill (Int. No. 793) entitled "An act to amend the County Law, in relation to the creation of county purchasing departments and agencies," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on internal affairs of towns, counties and public highways.

Mr. Walton introduced a bill (Int. No. 794) entitled "An act to amend the Penal Law, in relation to billiard and pocket billiard rooms, formerly known as pool rooms," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on codes.

Mr. Ames introduced a bill (Int. No. 795) entitled "An act amend chapter five hundred and thirty-five of the Laws of nineteen hundred and fifteen, entitled 'An act to consolidate and revise the several acts relative to the city of Olean,' in relation to powers and duties of park commissioners, the acquisition of lands for park purposes and providing for the raising of funds for the payment of same," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on affairs of cities.

The Senate bill (No. 683, Int. No. 211) entitled "An act to amend the Tax Law, in relation to reorganizing the State Tax

Commission and defining its powers and duties and transferring thereto certain powers, duties and jurisdiction of the Comptroller and Secretary of State," having been announced for third reading, Mr. Davenport moved that said bill be recommitted to the committee on taxation and retrenchment, with instructions to said committee to amend and report the same forthwith, to be reprinted as amended and restored to its place in the order of third reading.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in affirmative.

Mr. Davenport, from the committee on taxation and retrenchment. reported said bill amended as directed, and the same was ordered reprinted and placed on the order of third reading.

The President presented the report of State Board of Charities, which was laid upon the table and ordered printed.

The journal of Friday, March 4th, was read and approved. Mr. Thompson announced the death of former Senator John Lewis Childs, and offered a resolution, in the words following:

Resolved, That when the Senate adjourns, it adjourn out of respect to the memory of the late John Lewis Childs, a former member of this body.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said resolution, and it was decided in the affirmative by a rising vote.

Mr. Draper introduced a bill (Int. No. 796) entitled "An

act authorizing the county treasurer of Rensselaer county to correct his books of record," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on internal affairs of towns, counties and public highways.

Mr. Hewitt introduced a bill (Int. No. 797) entitled "An act making appropriation for the contributions of the State to the counties for the construction and improvement of certain highways and county roads, in accordance with section three hundred and twenty-b of the Highway Law," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on finance.

Also, a bill (Int. No. 798) entitled "An act making appropriations for the contributions of the State for the repair and improvement of town highways, in accordance with the requirements of section one hundred and one of the Highway Law and chapter one hundred and thirty-seven of the Laws of nineteen hundred and eleven, and the repair and improvement of highways and bridges on Indian reservations, in accordance with section one hundred and fifty-nine of the Highway Law," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on finance.

No. 799) entitled "An act to legalize certain bonds of the city of Poughkeepsie, heretofore issued, for terms maturing more than twenty years from date of issue," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on the judiciary.
