This Table being designed to show the proportion of drunkenness to the general mass of crime, is based on the offences reported, not on the persons committed, 134 persons being held in the County Prisons, and 28 in the House of Industry, for from two to four offences each. Page 424. Cost of full support of State paupers should be $242,000 (see p. 421), and the total for State and town paupers, $832,858.34. Page 428 et seq. Table XLII. requires the substitution of the following figures for those inserted: admissions at McLean Asylum, 71 (37 males,' 34 females); total for all the hospitals, 1,399 (720 males, 679 females), of which 724 were supported by the State, 357 by towns, and 318 by individuals.
