The Governor returned without executive approval Senate bill (No. 1011, Int. No. 631) entitled "An act to amend chapter one hundred and thirty-five of the Laws of eighteen hundred and eighty-four, entitled 'An act providing for the better collection of taxes in the county of Erie; for the sale by the treasurer thereof of lands in said county for unpaid taxes, and regulating the compensation of said treasurer,' generally."

Mr. Hickey moved that said bill be laid upon the table. The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative.

The Temporary President announced the sudden death of Leon P. DeMarr, Secretary of the Assembly Ways and Means Committee and briefly addressed the Senate. Messrs. Walker and Fearon also paid tribute to the memory of the deceased.

Mr. Knight moved that when the Senate adjourn it do so out of respect to the memory of Mr. DeMarr.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative.

The journal of Wednesday, March 18th, was read and approved. The President presented a petition of the Grand Jury of Bronx county on the subject of civil marriages.

Ordered, That said petition be referred to the committee on general laws.

Also, the Senate Joint Resolution of the State of Nevada relative to call of a convention for proposing an amendment to Article XVIII of the amendments to the Constitution of the United States.

Ordered. That said petition be tabled.

Mr. Dunnigan introduced a bill (Int. No. 1421) entitled "An act authorizing Beck Memorial Presbyterian church of New York city to remove the human remains buried in the grounds belonging to said church, on East One Hundred and Eightieth street at West Farms, in the borough of the Bronx, in the city of New York,"

which was read the first time and by unanimous consent was also read the second time and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

Mr. Hickey introduced a bill (Int. No. 1422) entitled "An act to amend chapter six hundred and thirty-eight of the Laws of nineteen hundred and twenty-four, entitled 'An act to authorize the creation of a park commission in the county of Erie, and to define its powers and duties,' in relation to additional powers of condemnation," which was read the first time and by unanimous consent was also read the second time and referred to the committee on internal affairs of towns, counties and public highways. Mr. Thompson introduced a bill (Int. No. 1423) entitled "An act to amend the Election Law, in relation to the compensation of voting machine custodians, party representatives and instructors," which was read the first time and by unanimous consent was also read the second time and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

Also, a bill (Int. No. 1424) entitled "An act to amend chapter eight hundred and sixty-three of the Laws of nineteen hundred and twenty-three, entitled 'An act providing a form of government for Nassau county in conformity, with section twenty-six of article three of the Constitution,' generally," which was read the first time and by unanimous consent was also read the second time and referred to the committee on internal affairs of towns, counties, and public highways.

Mr. Hewitt introduced a bill (Int. No. 1425) entitled "An act to amend chapter two hundred and thirty-three of the Laws of nineteen hundred and twenty-four, entitled 'An act to create a commission to make plans for the celebration in the year nineteen hundred and twenty-five of the centennial of the opening of the old Erie canal, and making an appropriation therefor,' relative to the time of such celebration and the report of the commission," which was read the first time and by unanimous consent was also read the second time and referred to the committee on finance.

Mr. Brown (by request) introduced a bill (Int. No. 1426) entitled "An act requiring the New York Central Railroad Company to eliminate the present railroad grade crossing on Congress street, in the city of Schenectady, and the construction of an overhead structure, and making an appropriation to pay the State's share of such expense," which was read the first time and by unanimous consent was also read the second time and referred to the committee on finance.

Mr. Mastick introduced a bill (Int. No. 1427) entitled "An act to amend chapter four hundred and fifty-two of the Laws of nineteen hundred and eight, entitled 'An act to supplement the general laws relating to the government of the city of Yonkers, and to revise and consolidate the local laws relating thereto,' in relation to the division of the city of Yonkers into wards," which was read the first time and by unanimous consent was also read the second time and referred to the committee on affairs of cities.
