The most frank, fearless, open as well as most authoritative statement which has as yet made its appearance relative to the wreckage resulting from the over-unionizing of San Francisco, is that of Mr. William L. Gerstle, retiring President of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce.

The statement is given here in full because of its importance and the lesson it furnishes, not only for the employer but likewise for the employe who may have some idea in his mind that complete recognition of union principles will work a cure for all the evils of mankind. In the present instance the recognition of these principles has simply resulted in the throttling of enterprises which usually furnish employment for workmen; if these enterprises cannot exist, if people will not invest their money in them and keep them going, there certainly can be no employment for the workmen no matter under what conditions.
