The Assembly bill entitled "An act to amend chapter 351 of the Laws of 1874, entitled 'An act to amend chapter 312 of the Laws of 1859, entitled An act to equalize the State tax among the several counties in the State, and to amend chapter 327 of the Laws of 1873, amendatory thereof,"" was read the third time and passed.

The Assembly bill entitled "An act to enable the trustees of villages in the county of Richmond to contract for a supply of water to such villages for fire and other public purposes, and to raise and expend money therefor," was read the third time and passed.

The Assembly bill entitled "An act to authorize the formation of corporations for manufacturing, mining, mechanical or chemical purposes," having been announced for a third reading,

On motion of Mr. Woodin, and by unanimous consent, the same was amended as follows:

§ 5. No corporation shall be formed under this act for the purpose of accumulating, storing, conducting, selling, furnishing and supplying water for domestic or municipal purposes to the cities of New York, Buffalo, Rochester or Kingston, or either of them.

§ 6. This act shall take effect immediately.

Said bill was then read the third time and passed.

The Assembly bill entitled "An act to amend chapter 435 of the Laws of 1868, entitled An act to incorporate the village of Hamilton, in the county of Madison, and to repeal its present charter,' as amended by chapter 166 of the Laws of 1877, and by chapter 19 of the Laws of 1878," was read the third time and passed.

The Assembly bill entitled "An act to ascertain the citizens of the several towns of this State having a population of 300,000, according to the last census, who shall be entitled to the right of suffrage therein," was read the third time and passed.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to the final passage of said bill, and it was decided in the affirmative, a majority of all the members elected to the Senate voting in favor thereof, and three-fifths being present, as follows:

When the name of Mr. Fowler was called, he asked to be excused

from voting.

The President put the question whether the Senate would grant said request, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Ordered, That the Clerk return said bill to the Assembly, with a message informing that the Senate have concurred in the passage of the same, with amendments.

Mr. Forster moved that the committee of the whole be discharged from the further consideration of the bill entitled "An act to provide for the maintenance, support and government of the poor and for the better application of funds to relieve the poor," and that the same be recommitted to the committee on poor laws.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative.

On motion of Mr. Robertson, the Senate then went into open executive session, and confirmed the appointment of certain notaries public.

On motion of Mr. Robertson, the Senate then resumed legislative business.

The Senate then resolved itself into a committee of the whole, and proceeded to the consideration of general orders, being the bills entitled as follows:

"An act to amend chapter 227 of the Laws of 1872, entitled Anact to amend an act passed May 9, 1868, entitled 'An act to amend section 3 of chapter 817 of the Laws of 1866, entitled An act to lay out and construct a road from the river road in township number 14, in the town of Johnsburgh, to the Carthage road, near the head of Long lake, in the county of Hamilton.'"

"An act to amend chapter 290 of the Laws of 1872, entitled 'An act to authorize the Blossburg Coal Company, the successors and assigns of the Bloss Coal, Mining and Railroad Company, a corporation organized and existing under the laws of the Commonwealth of Penusylvania, to hold real estate for the purposes of business.'

"An act to amend the law of evidence."

After some time spent therein, the President resumed the chair, and Mr. Williams, from said committee, reported in favor of the passage of the above named bills, which report was agreed to and said bills ordered engrossed for a third reading.

The Senate again resolved itself into a committee of the whole, and proceeded to the consideration of general orders, being the bills entitled as follows:

"An act in relation to the common lands of the town of Gravesend."

"An act in relation to the public baths in the city of Brooklyn." Assembly, "An act relative to janitors in district courts in the city of New York."

After some time spent therein, the President resumed the chair, and Mr. Mills, from said committee, reported in favor of the passage of the first named bill, with amendments, which report was agreed to and said bill ordered engrossed for a third reading.

Mr. Mills, from the same committee, reported in favor of the passage of the second named bill, which report was agreed to and said bill ordered engrossed for a third reading.
