Mr. Plunkitt introduced a bill entitled "An act to authorize and empower the commissioners of the sinking fund in the city of New York to appropriate and set apart land belonging to said city as locations for station-houses and fire apparatus houses," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on cities.

Mr. Daggett introduced a bill entitled "An act to incorporate the Kings County Industrial Home for Boys," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on miscellaneous corporations.

Mr. Robinson introduced a bill entitled "An act to provide for lengthening lock No. 46 of the Erie canal, and making an appropriation therefor," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on canals.

Mr. Vedder introduced a bill entitled "An act to amend chapter 80 of the Laws of 1880, entitled 'An act to amend chapter 351 of the Laws of 1874, entitled An act to amend chapter 312 of the Laws of 1859, entitled An act to equalize the State tax among the several counties in the State, and to amend chapter 327 of the Laws of 1873, amendatory thereof, and to amend section 4 of chapter 312 of the Laws of 1859, entitled An act to equalize the State tax among the several counties of this State,'" which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on taxation and retrenchment.

On motion of Mr. Ellsworth, the Senate adjourned.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.

The journal of yesterday was read and approved.

The privileges of the floor were extended to Hon. H. L. Sprague and Hon. Silas B. Dutcher.

Mr. Esty, from the committee on public printing, to which was referred the resolution to print extra copies of the Report of the State Assessors, reported in favor of the adoption of the following resolution :

Resolved (if the Assembly concur), That 5,000 extra copies of the Report of the State Assessors be printed, with covers, for distribution among the supervisors and assessors of the various towns and cities in the State. Said copies shall be distributed by the Secretary of State so that each supervisor and assessor shall receive one copy each,

Also, that 2,000 copies of said report be printed, with covers, for the use of this Legislature, and 1,000 copies, with covers, for the use of the State Assessors.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said resolution, and it was decided in the affirmative, a majority of all the Senators elected voting in favor thereof, as folows:

Ordered, That the Clerk deliver said resolution to the Assembly, and request their concurrence therein.

Mr. Ellsworth, from the committee on the judiciary, to which was referred the bill introduced by Mr. Baker, Int. No. 128, entitled "An act to ratify the contract entered into in behalf of the State of New York, by and between the agent and warden of the Auburn State prison and Edward M. Moore," reported in favor of the passage of the same, with amendments, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Ellsworth, from the committee on the judiciary, reported a bill entitled "An act to amend chapter 248 of the Laws of 1870, as amended by chapter 405 of the Laws of 1879, and chapter 172 of the Laws of 1883, entitled 'An act in relation to the election of officers in certain school districts,'" which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Ellsworth, from the committee on the judiciary, to which was referred the bill introduced by Mr. Titus, Int. No. 133, entitled "An act in relation to the examination of the accounts, etc., of the Surrogate's Court and the transfer of the moneys and securities to the county treasurer," reported in favor of the passage of the same, with amendments, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Ellsworth, from the committee on the judiciary, to which was referred the bill introduced by Mr. McCarthy, Int. No. 130, entitled "An act to exempt the town of Salina, Onondaga county, from certain provisions of chapter 576 of the Laws of 1880, entitled 'An act to ascertain by proper proofs the citizens who shall be entitled to the right of suffrage in cities of 16,000 inhabitants or upwards, and the towns and villages abutting against the boundary of any such cities,' reported in favor of the passage of the same, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Ellsworth, from the committee on the judiciary, to which was referred the bill introduced by Mr. Campbell, Int. No. 110, entitled "An act to amend an act relating to courts, officers of justice and civil proceedings, passed June 2, 1876, and known as the Code of Civil Procedure," reported in favor of the passage of the same, with amendments, and the title amended so as to read "An act to amend the Code of Civil Procedure," which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Ellsworth, from the committee on the judiciary, to which was referred the bill introduced by Mr. Vedder, Int. No. 134, entitled "An act to legalize the official acts of certain justices of the peace, and authorizing justices of the peace to execute and file official bonds and to take and subscribe the official oath," reported in favor of the passage of the same, with an amendment, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Ellsworth, from the committee on the judiciary, to which was

referred the bill introduced by Mr. Gilbert, Int. No. 139, entitled "An act to amend certain sections of the Code of Criminal Procedure," reported in favor of the passage of the same, with amendments, and the title amended so as to read "An act to amend the Code of Criminal Procedure," which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Ellsworth, from the committee on the judiciary, to which was referred the bill introduced by Mr. Otis, Int. No. 60, entitled "An act to provide for the payment of certain losses sustained by widows and orphans by the several counties," reported adversely thereto, which report was agreed to, and said bill rejected.

Mr. Gilbert, from the committee on literature, to which was referred the bill introduced by Mr. Gilbert, Int. No. 107, entitled "An act relating to the study of physiology and hygiene in the public schools," reported in favor of the passage of the same, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

No. 143, entitled "An act to authorize the Home for the Aged of the Little Sisters of the Poor of the city of New York to acquire and hold real and personal estate, for benevolent and charitable purposes,' reported in favor of the passage of the same, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Coggeshall, from the committee on miscellaneous corporations, to which was referred the bill introduced by Mr. Robb, Int. No. 72, entitled "An act to further amend chapter 121 of the Laws of 1833,

entitled 'An act to incorporate the New York Protestant Episcopal City Mission Society,' as amended by chapter 173 of the Laws of 1866," reported in favor of the passage of the same, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Coggeshall, from the committee on miscellaneous corporations, to which was referred the bill introduced by Mr. Campbell, Int. No. 93, entitled "An act to establish the Medical Faculty of the University of the State of New York, to regulate the licensing of practitioners of physic and surgery, and to further regulate the practice of physic and surgery," reported in favor of the passage of the same, with amendments, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

On motion of Mr. Low, it was ordered that said bill, when printed, be recommitted to the committee on miscellaneous corporations.

Mr. Baker, from the committee on insurance, to which was referred the bill introduced by Mr. Fassett, Int, No. 142, entitled "An act legalizing the proceedings of the annual meeting of the Southern Tier Masonic Relief Association, held January 14, 1884," reported in favor of the passage of the same, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Baker, from the committee on insurance, to which was referred the bill introduced by Mr. Baker, Int. No. 109, entitled "An act to amend chapter 463 of the Laws of 1853, as amended by chapter 485 of the Laws of 1879, entitled 'An act to provide for the incorporation of life and health insurance companies, and in relation to agencies of such companies,"" reported the same for the consideration of the Senate, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

On motion of Mr. Baker it was ordered that said bill, when printed, be recommitted to the committee on insurance.

Mr. Baker, from the committee on insurance, to which was referred the bill introduced by Mr. Coggeshall, Int. No. 75, entitled "An act for the protection of persons insured in accident insurance companies or associations," reported the same for the consideration of the Senate, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

On motion of Mr. Baker, it was ordered that said bill, when printed, be recommitted to the committee on insurance.

The President presented the Annual Report of the State Board of Charities; which was laid upon the table and ordered printed.

Mr. Lansing offered the following:

Resolved (if the Assembly concur), That fifteen hundred (1,500) extra copies of the Seventeenth Annual Report of the State Board of Charities be printed for the use of the Board, and that 1,000 copies thereof be bound in paper covers and 500 copies bound in muslin.

Ordered, That said resolution be referred to the committee on public printing.

The Assembly sent for concurrence the following entitled bills: "An act making appropriations for the salaries and expenses of the Commissioners of the Board of Claims, and for the salaries and actual expenses of the clerk, stenographer and messenger of said Board, and for the contingent fund of said Board, and for interest upon sums ad

On motion of Mr. Lansing said bill was substituted for the Senate bill of the same title, now on the order of third reading.

"An act to amend section 955 of title 5 of chapter 16 of chapter 410 of the Laws of 1882, entitled 'An act to consolidate into one act and to declare the special and local laws affecting public interests in the city of New York,' passed July 1, 1882, and the acts amendatory thereof," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on cities.

"An act for the relief of George La Bounty," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

The Assembly returned the concurrent resolution relative to printing the contract for public printing and placing the same upon the files, with a message that they had concurred in the passage of the same.

Mr. Low introduced a bill entitled "An act to amend the Code of Civil Procedure," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

Mr. Thacher introduced a bill entitled "An act to amend chapter 427 of the Laws of 1855, entitled 'An act in relation to the collection of taxes on lands of non-residents, and to provide for the sale of such lands for unpaid taxes,"" which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on taxation and retrenchment.

Mr. Robinson introduced a bill entitled "An act to amend chapter 628 of the Laws of 1857, entitled 'An act to suppress intemperance and to regulate the sale of intoxicating liquors,"" which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on internal affairs.

Mr. Robb introduced a bill entitled "An act to amend the Code of Civil Procedure," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

Also, a bill entitled "An act to change the corporate name of the Association for the Benefit of Colored Orphans in the city of New York to the Colored Orphan Asylum and Association for the Benefit of Colored Children' in the city of New York," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on miscellaneous corporations.

Also, a bill entitled "An act to amend an act entitled 'An act to amend an act entitled An act to amend an act entitled An act to incorporate the Association for the Benefit of Colored Orphans in the city of New York, passed April 16, 1838, passed April 1, 1871,' passed April 22, 1872," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on miscellaneous corporations.
