On motion of Mr. Daly, and by unanimous consent, said bill was amended by adding the following as section 6:

"The corporation is authorized to take by purchase, devise, bequest or otherwise for its purposes any real or personal property, and to hold, transfer and convey the same. The property of the corporation, used for its purposes, and from which no income is derived, shall be exempt from taxation so long, and only so long, as it is used exclusively for charitable purposes, and so long as it affords gratuitous treatment to those who comply with its rules, but are unable to pay for such treatment."

Said bill, as amended, was then read the third time.

Section 1, line 3, after the word "State," insert "except in the county of Kings."

Mr. Gibbs, from the committee on cities, to which was referred the bill introduced by Mr. Thacher, Int. No. 284, entitled "An act to provide for the care, transportation and commitment and the payment therefor of lunatics, idiots, persons of unsound mind, deaf-mutes, orphans and paupers, the expense of whose maintenance and transportation is a charge upon the county of Albany, and to define the duties of the superintendent of the alms-house in the city of Albany," reported in favor of the passage of the same, with amendments, which report was agreed to, and,

On motion of Mr. Thacher, and by unanimous consent, the rules were suspended, and said bill ordered to a third reading.

The Assembly bill entitled "An act to amend an act entitled 'An act to further amend chapter 143 of the Laws of 1861, entitled An act to amend and consolidate the several acts in relation to the charter of the city of Rochester, and to consolidate therewith the several acts in relation to the charter of said city,' passed February 19, 1880," was read the third time.
