others again, a similar adaptedness to individual relations. In others still, fundamental doctrines are established by deductions from facts in a manner highly convincing and satisfactory, a method of commending them to the understanding, which, in a promiscuous assembly, has many advantages over a more refined and abstract mode of reasoning, and for which Dr. Payson was pre-eminently distinguished. In all, the Saviour is honored, and the claims of Jehovah asserted and maintained.
These sermons are distinguished for simplicity, perspicuity, and directness, -the great object of the preacher being every where apparent, viz. to persuade men to become reconciled to God, and to build up Christians on their most holy faith. Like former posthumous publications from the same fervid pen, they are commended to the blessing of God and the candor of the community. July, 1831.
