The report represents that additional subscriptions to the capital stock have been opened, in order to extinguish the entire remaining debt, amounting already to $5000.

The committee recommend that the charters of the following named academies be declared absolute, and that they be admitted to the distribution of the Literature fund :

1. CINCINNATUS ACADEMY.

2. CLARENCE ACADEMY.

3. FALLEY SEMINARY.

4. SUSQUEHANNA SEMINARY.

5. WEBSTER ACADEMY.

6. GENESEE CONFERENCE SEMINARY.
7. MARION COLLEGIATE INSTITUTE.

They further recommend that "The New-York Conference Seminary and Collegiate Institute" be admitted to the distribution, but that payment of the same be suspended until the proper certificate of title is furnished.

They recommend the same in regard to the Brooklyn Collegiate and Polytechnic Institute, and that payment be suspended until the debts of the institute are reduced below one-third the whole property of the institute.

They further recommend the same in regard to the Grammar School of the New-York Central College, and that payment be suspended until a library and apparatus, of the value required by the ordinance, are obtained.

The recommendations of the committee were agreed to, and the report adopted.

The committee further report, that they have had under consideration the application of inhabitants of the village of Hempstead in the county of Queens, for a provisional charter of an academy in that place; that the application sets forth that subscriptions for the endowment of the same have been obtained to the amount of three thousand dollars, as appears by a copy of the subscription list annexed: the whole sum so subscribed has been paid, and is held by the petitioners, for the purposes herein prayed for; and that the petitioners are subscribers for more than one half of the said amount. The applicants ask for the usual provisional charter, and that the institution may be styled the

HEMPSTEAD INSTITUTE.

The application is duly authenticated as required by the ordinances, and the committee recommend that the provisional charter applied for be granted; which, on motion, was unanimously agreed to.

The committee further report that they have had under consideration the application of inhabitants of the town of NorthDansville in the county of Livingston, for a provisional charter of an academy in that place; that the application sets forth that for the endowment of such academy, subscriptions have been obtained to the amount of fifteen thousand dollars, as appears by the subscription list, a copy of which is annexed to the application, and from which it further appears that the petitioners are subscribers for more than one half the said amount. They ask to be incorporated by the name of

DANSVILLE SEMINARY.

The application is duly authenticated, and the committee recommend that the usual provisional charter be granted; which, on motion, was agreed to..

The reports of the Librarians of the Court of Appeals Libraries at Syracuse and Rochester, were received, and ordered to be placed on file.

The report of the Taxidermist of the State Cabinet of Natural History was received, and laid on the table.

It having been understood, when the De Rham Collection was presented to the State, that a large number of additional specimens would be presented whenever a proper building should be provided for their reception, it was, on motion of Rev. Dr. CAMPBELL, Resolved, That Mr. RANKIN be requested to inform Mrs. DE RHAM, or her representatives, of the completion of the building; and that the Regents, as Curators of the Collections in Natural History, will be happy to receive, and properly to preserve, any further contributions that may be made to their collections.

The draft of the Annual Report to the Legislature was presented by Mr. WETMORE, and, after discussion, it was recommitted for some verbal corrections.

On motion of Mr. RANKIN, it was

Resolved, That the reports of the meteorological observations from 1850 to 1858 be presented to the Legislature, to be published with the Annual Report.

On motion of Rev. Dr. CAMPBELL, it was

Resolved, That the Chart of the Animal Kingdom, by Mrs. A. M. REDFIELD, be placed on the list of charts, maps and apparatus, recommended by the Regents for purchase by the academies.

The Secretary reported the following account current of receipts and expenditures of the Regents of the University, from January to October 1857; and it was ordered that the same be printed in the published minutes.
