The early twentieth century was a time of exciting change and reform, especially in the area of women's rights. Women's involvement in the Civil War had encouraged them to go after their rights, but there was a long way to go. With the entry of the United States into the Great War in Europe in 1917, women again seized the opportunity to show just how deserving they were of these rights. As nurses, journalists, telephone operators, and volunteers, women enthusiastically contributed to war effort both in Europe and at home. Their contributions during this tense time in world history helped secure the right to vote for women in this country in 1920.
