HALL OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,

JEFFERSON CITY, MISSOURI,
WEDNESDAY, January 6th 1868.

The House was called to order by J. C. S. Colby, Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth General Assembly, at half-past ten o'clock A. M.

Mr. Harper offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the Secretary of State be requested to furnish the House of Representatives with a certified list of the members of the House of the Twenty-fifth General Assembly.

Which was read.

Mr. Campbell offered the following amendment by way of substi

Resolved, That the counties be called in alphabetical order, and that each person holding a certificate of election as a member of this House from said county present his certificate and be sworn as a member.

Which was read, and on motion, laid on the table.

The resolution as offered by Mr. Harper was then adopted.

Mr. Freeman moved that the House proceed to the election of a temporary speaker;

Which was agreed to.

Mr. Waters moved that Hon. M. L. Laughlin be declared temporary Speaker.

Mr. Campbell moved that Hon. Lucius Salisbury be declared temporary Speaker.

The motion of Mr. Waters, declaring Mr. Laughlin temporary Speaker,

Was then agreed to.

Mr. Freeman moved that a committee of three be appointed to wait upon Mr. Laughlin and inform him of his election;

Which was agreed to.

The Clerk appointed upon said committee Messrs. Freeman, Waters and Salisbury.

Mr. Laughlin was then introduced to the House and took the
