The office of city engineer of the city of Everett shall hereafter be subject to the provisions of chapter thirty-one of the General Laws, and the rules and regulations made thereunder, but no examination shall be required of the present incumbent. SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its acceptance by vote of the city council of said city, subject to the provisions of its charter; provided, that such acceptance occurs during the current year.
