fruit and vegetable diet, and obeying the laws of physiology in other respects, we return to the normal condition, wherein human life was prolonged to a term, which many at this day consider "incredible."

In conclusion, I would earnestly implore the mothers and maidens of England to be up and doing in this serious matter, and to exert themselves in persuading or shaming their husbands, sons, lovers, brothers, etc., out of the fearful habit of tobacco using; it will be hard work, no doubt, but no pains or trouble should be spared in so necessary an undertaking, in saving our fellow creatures from so ruinous a habit.

I have shown, I think fully, that nothing destroys energy of character more than tobacco. I will here quote the words of that good and noble man, Sir Thomas Fowell Buxton, Bart., on energy, he says, "The longer I live, the more I am certain that the great difference between men, between the feeble and the powerful, the great and the insignificant, is energy-Invincible Determination-a purpose once fixed, and then death or victory." Thus be determined against this vile drug, tobacco, and from every other article that interferes in the least with your strivings after perfection, and may the blessings of health, happiness, and a long life be the reward of all who strive manfully to overcome, even as Christ overcame.
