Mr. Cole introduced a bill (Int. No. 478) entitled "An act to amend chapter four hundred and forty-five of the Laws of eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, entitled 'An act to make the office of the sheriff of Steuben county a salaried one, in part, and to regulate the management thereof,' in relation to the compensation, powers and duties of the sheriff, deputy sheriff and attendants in such county," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on internal affairs of towns, counties and public highways.

Mr. Fearon introduced a bill (Int. No. 479 entitled "An act making appropriation for repairing, altering and enlarging the armory in the city of Syracuse," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on finance.

Mr. Thayer introduced a bill (Int. No. 480) entitled "An act to repeal sections one hundred and twenty-eight and one hundred and twenty-nine of the Education Law, relating to consolidation of school districts," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on public education.

Mr. Wales introduced a bill (Int. No. 482) entitled "An act to legalize a special town meeting held in and for the town of Conklin, Broome county, on the twentieth day of October, nineteen hundred and twenty-five, authorizing the issuance of bonds of said town for the purpose of raising twenty-five hundred dollars for the purpose of purchasing a site and erecting thereon a town house in and for the said town, together with the proceedings relating to such authorization, and to authorize the issuance of bonds of said town of Conklin for such purpose,' ," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

Also, a bill (Int. No. 483) entitled "An act to legalize the acts and proceedings of the town of Conklin, Broome county, its town board, its officers and agents, had and taken prior to September thirtieth, nineteen hundred and twenty-five, relative to the purchase of a site and erection thereon of a town house in such town,' which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on th judiciary. Also, a bill (Int. No. 484) entitled "An act to amend the Tax

Law, in relation to providing for a tax on gasoline and similar motor fuel," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on taxation and retrenchment.

Mr. Truman introduced a bill (Int. No. 485) entitled "An act to amend the Highway Law, in relation to the estimate of expenditures for highways and bridges," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on internal affairs of towns, counties and public highways.

Mr. Campbell introduced a bill (Int. No. 486) entitled "An act to authorize The Niagara Gorge Railroad Company to construct and operate a toll road upon its railroad right-of-way," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on public service.

The Assembly sent for concurrence the bill (No. 274, Rec. No. 8) entitled "An Act to amend the Town Law, in relation to petitions to extend a lighting system in the town of Greenburgh, Westchester county," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on internal affairs of towns, counties and public highways.

Also, a Bill (No. 359, Rec. No. 9) entitled "An act to amend the Town Law, in relation to the compensation of town superintendents of highways in certain towns," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on internal affairs of towns, counties and public highways.

Also, a bill (No. 162, Rec. No. 10) entitled "An act authorizing the transfer to the State, for a nominal consideration, of certain lands of Columbia University, located in the borough of Manhattan, city of New York, for the purposes of a psychiatrie institute and hospital, and making them available for the New York State Psychiatric Institute," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on finance.

Also, a bill (No. 288, Rec. No. 11) entitled "An act to amend the County Law, in relation to compensation, mileage and expenses of supervisors in the county of Wayne," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on internal affairs of towns, counties and public highways.

The Assembly sent for concurrence a resolution, in the words following:

Resolved (if the Senate concur), That at the hour of twelve o'clock, noon, on Wednesday, February 10th, the Senate and Assembly meet in joint assembly as provided by law for the purpose of comparing nominations for the office of Regent of the University in place of Roland B. Woodward of the city of Rochester, county of Monroe, Seventh Judicial District, whose term of office is about

to expire; also a Member of the Council of Farms and Markets in place of William F. Pratt of the city of Batavia, county of Genesee, Eighth Judicial District, whose term of office is about to expire.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said resolution, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Ordered, That the Clerk return said resolution to the Assembly, with a message that the Senate has concurred in the passage of the same.

Mr. Hewitt, from the committee on finance, to which was referred the Senate bill introduced by Mr. Kirkland (No. 371, Int. No. 365) entitled "An act to amend chapter two hundred and five of the Laws of nineteen hundred and twenty-five, entitled 'An act making appropriations for the Commissioner of Farms and Markets for the payment of claims arising from the destruction of diseased animals, pursuant to the Farms and Markets Law,' in relation to appropriations for the payment of claims arising from the destruction of tuberculous animals," reported in favor of the pas sage of the same, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Hewitt, from the committee on finance, to which was referred the Senate bill introduced by Mr. Hewitt (No. 412, Int. No. 405) entitled "An act making appropriations for the maintenance and repair of improved State and county highways, including neccessary bridge construction and repair, roads and bridges on Indian reservations, and other special construction and repair work as enumerated herein," reported in favor of the passage of the same, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

No. 406) entitled "An act making an appropriation for the State's share of construction or reconstruction of rural post roads within the State, pursuant to certain acts in Congress which provide that the United States shall aid in the construction of rural post roads and for other purposes; State and county highways, and the construction, reconstruction, alteration or repair of highway bridges," reported in favor of the passage of the same, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

No. 407) entitled "An act making an appropriation for the payment by the State in the first instance of the Federal government's share of the cost of construction and improvement of rural post roads within the State, pursuant to an act of Congress, entitled 'An act to provide that the United States shall aid the States in the construction of rural post roads, and for other purposes," reported in favor of the passage of the same, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

No. 400) entitled "An act to amend the State Finance Law, in relation to the issuance of bonds, creating State debts authorized by law for acquisition of real property and construction, pursuant to section fifteen of article seven of the Constitution," reported in favor of the passage of the same with amendments, which report was agreed to, and said bill ordered reprinted and committed to the committee of the whole.

No. 160) entitled "An act to amend the State Boards and Commissions Law, in relation to the time of holding the State fair," reported in favor of the passage of the same, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole. Mr. Hewitt, from the committee on finance, to which was referred the Senate bill introduced by Mr. Wales (No. 330, Int. No. 324) entitled "An act to authorize the Commissioners of the Land Office to convey to the Susquehanna Valley Home all right, title and interest of the State in certain real property, heretofore conveyed to such home by the State subject to a clause of defeasance or reversion," reported in favor of the passage of the same, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

counties and public highways, to which was referred the Assembly bill introduced by Mr. Goodrich (No. 214, Rec. No. 5) entitled: "An act to amend chapter two hundred and sixty-three of the Laws of nineteen hundred and five, entitled 'An act authorizing the town board of the town of Cortlandt to appropriate certain moneys to the Helping Hand Hospital Association of Peekskill, New York,' in relation to authority and power to raise by taxation moneys to be paid to the Peekskill Hospital for the care and maintenance of indigent patients of the town of Cortlandt," reported in favor of the passage of the same, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole. Mr. Ferris, from the committee on internal affairs of towns, counties and public highways, to which was referred the Senate bill introduced by Mr. Westall (No. 196, Int. Mr. Ferris, from the committee on internal affairs of towns, counties and highways, to which was referred the Senate bill, introduced by Mr. Thompson (No. 336, Int. No. 330) entitled "An act authorizing and directing the supervisors of the town. of Hempstead, Nassau county, to pay to the village of Valley Stream, Nassau county, certain moneys collected in said village on account of the highway taxes of said town and authorizing the borrowing of money and the levy of taxes for the payment of the same," reported in favor of the passage of the same, which report was agreed to, and said bill commited to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Ferris, from the committee on internal affairs of towns, counties and public highways, to which was referred the Senate bill introduced by Mr. Thompson (No. 191, Int. No. 191) entitled "An act to amend chapter two hundred and forty-six of the Laws of nineteen hundred and sixteen, entitled 'An act to enable the towns in the county of Suffolk to provide for the extermination of mosquitoes and establishment of districts therefor,' in relation to the amount of annual appropriations for such purpose," reported in favor of the passage of the same with amendments, which report was agreed to, and said bill ordered reprinted and committed to the committee of the whole.
