PREFATORY NOTE. THE chapter scheme of the New Revision of the General Laws makes it possible for one in search of the law upon any subject, by a glance at the list of chapters and their subjects, to determine in which chapter to search. The list of chapters, with their subjects and the subject-matter of the articles into which they are divided, is to be found in the Table of Contents in Volume I. This index is intended to refer one at once to any required detail of the law. It is in two parts, Topical and Alphabetical. In the Topical Index are to be found the subjects of the revision, arranged under the topics of the chapters and running through the headings of the articles and sections, thus giving a far wider topical view than is to be found in the condensed Table of Contents. In the Alphabetical Index will be found every detail dealt with in any section of the revision, entered under each possible catchword. Most of the sections will thus be found to be indexed five or six times under different letters. |
