CANALS. 1810 Commissioners were appointed to explore the whole route of inland navigation, from the tide waters of the Hudson, to Lakes Ontario and Erie, and to report what further improvement could be made therein." After an actual survey, the Commissioners made a favorable Report in 1811, and another in 1812, estimating the cost at from five to six millions. The Tolls collected on the Erie and Champlain canals during the season which has just terminated, amount to one million twenty-nine thousand nine hundred and thirty-two dollars; exceeding by a quarter. of a million the receipts of any previous year.
