Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

In the Year One Thousand Eight Hundred and FortyEight.

AN ACT

Relating to Town and County Roads.

BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives, in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1 The county commissioners of the several counties, 2 and the selectmen of the several towns, and the 3 mayor and aldermen of the several cities of this 4 Commonwealth, shall cause permanent stone bounds, 5 not less than three feet long,—two feet of which, at

6 least, shall be inserted in the earth,-to be erected at 7 the termini and angles of all roads hereafter laid out 8 by them, where practicable; and, when not practica9 ble, a heap of stones, a living tree, a permanent rock, 10 or the corner of an edifice, may be a substitute for said 11 stones.

AN ACT

Concerning Long Beach in the town of Lynn.

BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives, in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Any person who shall, after the passage of this 2 act, carry away or remove, by land or water, any 3 stones, gravel or sand, from the Long Beach in the 4 town of Lynn, shall, for each offence, forfeit and pay 5 a sum not exceeding twenty dollars, to be recovered 6 by complaint or indictment in any court of compe7 tent jurisdiction; one half for the use of the com8 plainant, the other half for the use of said town of 9 Lynn.
