WATERTOWN, N. Y., May 30, 1896. CHARLES S. SHELDON, M. D., Secretary Wisconsin State Medical Society.

Dear Doctor:

As President of the Medical Society of the State of New York, I would state that we have found material advantage in holding our annual meeting at Albany during the session of the legislature. An advantage which has resulted in the enactment of excellent health and medical education laws for the State of New York.

It has occurred to me that a similar advantage could be realized by the country at large by the organization of a small delegated body representing each State Medical Society in the United States.

Such body to meet in Washington, D. C., each year for a brief period during the session of Congress.

These meetings could be arranged subject to call and held. during the pendency of important legislation relative to the public health of the various medical branches of the public service and of the medical profession.

I therefore ask you to kindly cooperate with this Society, and with the medical societies of other States, by appointing a delegation of three, with three alternates, to attend a conference sometime during the ensuing year and formulate a definite organization.

Kindly advise me of any action your Society may take and the names and addresses of such delegates and alternates as may be chosen.

As soon as we receive returns from the State Societies yet to meet a call will be issued, which will probably be sometime during February, March or April, 1897.

You will readily perceive the great advantage of a National Medical Legislative Committee like this to each and every State Medical Society.

Very sincerely,

JAMES D. SPENCER, President.

A. WALTER SUITER, M. D.,

Chairman Committee on Legislation, State of New York.

Dr. Earles: I move that the communication be received, placed on file, and that the President appoint such commit

tee.
