CHAP. 176.-An Act Granting an increase of pension to Freeman R. Gove.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Freeman R. Gove, late of Company K, Fourth Regiment Vermont Volunteer Infantry, and pay him a pension at the rate of thirty dollars per month in lieu of that he is now receiving. Approved, January 13, 1903.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of James H. Chedester, late of Company E, Fourth Regiment Tennessee Volunteer Infantry, and pay him a pension at the rate of seventeen dollars per month in lieu of that he is now receiving. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Charles M. Grainger, late first lieutenant Company B, Eighty-eighth Regiment New York Volunteer Infantry, and pay him a pension at the rate of twenty-four dollars per month in lieu of that he is now receiving.

Cross, widow of William Cross, late colonel Third Regiment Tennessee Volunteer Infantry, and pay her a pension at the rate of thirty dollars per month in lieu of that she is now receiving. States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Timothy Donohoe, late of Company B, Sixty-ninth Regiment New York Volunteer Infantry, and pay him a pension at the rate of seventeen dollars per month in lieu of that he is now receiving. CHAP. 183.-An Act Granting an increase of pension to Jennett Stewart.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Jennett Stewart, widow of Alfred Stewart, late of Company L, Seventh Regiment Illinois Volunteer Cavalry, and pay her a pension at the rate of twenty dollars per month in lieu of that she is now receiving: Provided, however, That in the case of the death of the helpless child, Josephine Stewart, on whose account the pension of Jennett Stewart is increased, the pension of said Jennett Stewart shall continue only at the rate of eight dollars per month from and after the date of death of said helpless child.

A. Rider, late first lieutenant Company E, Ninety-first Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry, and pay him a pension at the rate of thirty dollars per month in lieu of that he is now receiving.

Read, widow of Frank D. Read, late lieutenant, United States Navy, and pay her a pension at the rate of twenty-five dollars per month in lieu of that she is now receiving. CHAP. 193.-An Act For the relief of John A. Mason.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to credit the accounts of John A. Mason, collector of internal revenue for the second collection district of New York, with the sum of four hundred and thirty thousand two hundred and forty-nine dollars and eighty-three and one-third cents, being the value of internal-revenue stamps destroyed by fire at the office of said collector, number one hundred and fourteen Nassau street, New York, New York, on the night of February eleventh, eighteen hundred and ninety-eight.
