Mr. Kline, from the committee on roads and bridges, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act to confirm the acts of the town clerk and commissioners of highways of the town of Mount Pleasant, in Westchester county, and the acts of the commissioners to assess damages in relation to the laying out of public highway called the con tinuation of Valley street in the village of Beekmantown, in said town of Mount Pleasant," with power to report complete, reported the same complete, which report was agreed to and said bill ordered to a third reading.

Mr. Folger, from the committee on the judiciary, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act providing for relief against illegal taxation," with power to report complete, reported that they have made some amendments thereto, and amended the title by adding thereto the words: "in the counties of Herkimer, Otsego, Chenango, Madison, Onondaga, Saratoga and Fulton," and as amended, report the same complete and recommend its passage; which report was agreed to, and said bill ordered to a third reading.

On motion of Mr. T. Murphy and by unanimous consent, the rules were suspended, and the Assembly bill entitled "An act to construct a railroad from the Hudson River Railroad, at Spuyten Duyvil, to the East

river, at Port Morris," was recommitted to the committee on railroads, with power to report complete.

The Assembly returned the bill entitled "An act to enable the board of supervisors of the county of New York to raise money by tax for the use of the corporation of the city of New York, and in relation to the expenditure thereof; and to provide for the auditing and payment of unsettled claims against said city," with a message that they had concurred in all the amendments made thereto by the Senate, with the exception of so much thereof as strikes out section eight and inserts a new section in lieu therof; the item known as the Wharves and Pier Appropriation, and the item known as the Board of Audit, which are non-concurred in, and on these items request a committee of conference; and have appointed on their part, as such committee of conference, Messrs. Wilber, Roberts, Bristol, Younglove and Creamer.

Mr. Low moved that a committee of conference be appointed on the part of the Senate.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Messrs. Low, Campbell and Wood, were appointed as such committee. Ordered, That the Clerk return said bill to the Assembly, with a message informing that the Senate have consented to a committee of conference.

The Assembly returned the bill entitled "An act to enable the supervisors of the county of New York to raise money by tax for certain county purposes, and to extend the powers of the Metropolitan Police," with a message that they had concurred in the passage of the same, with the following amendments:

Page 1, section 1, line 13, engrossed bill, strike out "twenty" and insert thirty." Same line, strike out "mayor" and insert "comptroller." Line 14, strike out "two" and insert "three." Same line, strike out morning" and insert "and three weekly."

Page 2. Strike out 5th, 6th and 7th lines. Line 10, strike out "four" and insert "ten." Line 13, strike out "construction of seven hundred and fifty" and insert "for completion of one million." Line 14, strike out "thousand." Also, all after the word "dollars" down to and including the 18th line.

Page 3. Strike out 10th and 11th lines, and insert the following:

"Salaries Executive Department, one hundred and eighty-six thousand dollars. The salary of the comptroller, for services to the county, is hereby fixed at the same amount as is now paid to the mayor of the city of New York for like services; the salary of the deputy comptroller, for services to the county, is hereby fixed at three thousand dollars per annum. Said salaries to take effect January 1st, 1867."

Same page, line 12, strike out "thirty-seven" and insert "sixty." Line 13, strike out "ninety-five" and insert "seventy."

Page 4. At the commencement of the page insert the following: "For Hoffman's Digest of Statistics, relating to the county of New York, for printing and binding five thousand copies, $14,750."

"Also, the further sum of $10,000 to provide for copying lien dockets, lispendens, sheriff's sales, and dockets of judgments in the office of county clerk of the county of New York-the same to be done under the direction of the said county clerk."

"Also, the further sum of $4,000, to pay for the expense of compiling records of share-holders of banks and personal estate, in the county of [SENATE JOURNAL.]
