Mr. White, from the committee on literature, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act in aid of the common schools in Richmond county," reported that they have made some amendments thereto, and amended the title so as to read "An act providing for the application of moneys hereafter collected in the Metropolitan district for certain fines and from licenses for the sale of liquor," and as amended, recommend its passage, which report was agreed to:

By unanimous consent the rule was suspended, and said bill read a third time.

The Assembly bill entitled "An act to authorize the directors of the Union Turnpike Company, in the county of Albany, to collect from persons living within one mile of the gate half toll," was read a third time. The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to the final passage of said bill, and it was decided in the affirmative, a majority of all the members elected to the Senate voting in favor thereof, as follows:

Mr. Wolcott called for the consideration of the following resolution: Resolved, (if the Senate concur,) That 1,000 extra copies of the annual report of the Superintendent of Public Instruction be printed, trimmed. and bound in paper covers, for the use of the Department of Public Instruction; and one thousand extra copies of his report on compulsory education, be printed, trimmed and bound in paper covers, for the same purpose.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said resolution, and it was decided in the affirmative, a majority of all the members elected to the Senate voting in favor thereof.

Ordered, That the Clerk return said resolutions to the Assembly, with a message informing that the Senate have concurred in the passage of the same, without amendment.

Mr. Low offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That a special committee of the Senate, of five members, be appointed by the President thereof, to visit the city of New York after the adjournment of the Senate, and investigate the management of and all matters concerning the several boards and departments of the local government of the city and county of New York, and make a report thereon to the Senate at the first meeting of its next session; such committee to meet from time to time at such times and places as they may determine.

Mr. H. C. Murphy moved that said resolution be laid upon the table.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion to lay on the table, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Mr. Chambers moved that the Senate now go into committee of the whole upon the Assembly bill entitled "An act to amend an act entitled 'An act to regulate the sale of intoxicating liquors within the Metropolitan District of the State of New York,' passed April 16, 1866."

Mr. O'Donnell moved to lay said motion on the table.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion to lay on the table, and it was decided in the negative, as follows:

The conference committee on the bill known as the "New York County Tax Levy," respectfully report to the Senate and Assembly, as follows: Page one, section one, line thirteen, that the House recede from their amendment, and that the word "twenty-five" be inserted.

Senate concur in amendments on line 14.

Page two, Senate concur in amendments striking out fifth, sixth and seventh lines.

Line ten, that House recede from their amendment and insert the word "eight."

After the word "the" insert the words "New York."

After the word "asylum" insert the words "at Binghamton, which said ten per cent shall be paid to the said 'The New York State Inebriate Asylum,' as now required by law, provided that the trustees of the said asylum shall, within sixty days after the passage of this act, make and execute a conveyance to the State of New York, by deed duly acknowledged and recorded, of all the real estate, with the buildings and improvements thereon and appurtenances thereto, owned by said asylum, in the county of Broome in said State, which conveyance the said trustees are hereby empowered to make."

In same section, after the word "fines" insert the words "the sum of $1,500 per annum" and strike out the balance of section.

The Assembly returned the resolution relative to the final adjournment, with a message that they had passed the same by striking out "Friday 19th inst., at 12 o'clock M.," and inserting "Saturday 20th, at 11 P. M.” Mr. Pierson moved to concur in same by striking out "11" and inserting "12."

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Ordered, That the Clerk return said resolution to the Assembly, with a message informing that the Senate have concurred in their amendment, with a further amendment.

The Assembly returned the bill entitled "An act authorizing the Middletown, Unionville and Watergap Railroad Company to use fifty pound iron rail," with a message that they had passed the same, with the fol lowing amendments:

Section 1, strike out all down to the word "the."

Line 4, same section, after the word "company" insert "is authorized and allowed." Strike out "their" and insert "its."

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to concur in the amendment of the Assembly to said bill, and it was decided in the affirmative, a majority of all the members elected to the Senate voting in favor thereof, as follows:

Ordered, That the Clerk return said bill to the Assembly, with a message informing that the Senate have concurred in their amendments. Mr. Collins offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate cause to be printed 500 copies of the laws and ordinances enacted by the Director General and Council of New Netherlands, from 1638 to 1674, translated from the original Dutch records in the office of the Secretary of State.
