referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act to increase the salary of Gregory Ritt, one of the assessors of the city of Buffalo," reported in favor of the passage of the same, and said bill was committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Andrews, from the committee on municipal affairs, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act to fix the number and to provide for the election of aldermen in the city of Rochester," reported in favor of the passage of the same.

Mr. Parsons moved that said bill be referred to the first committee of the whole, not full.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative, two-thirds of all the Senators present voting in favor thereof.

Mr. Low, from the committee on railroads, to which was referred the bill entitled "An act to amend an act to facilitate the construction of the Southern Central Railroad," reported in favor of the passage of the same, and said bill was committed to the committee of the whole.

The Assembly sent for concurrence the bills entitled as follows: "An act to amend the act entitled 'An act in relation to the Utica, Chenango and Susquehanna Valley Railroad Company, empowering it to apply for appraisal of land on complying with certain conditions,' passed April 18, 1866," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on railroads.

"An act distributing certain bounty moneys in the town of Little Valley, county of Cattaraugus," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

"An act in relation to the sale and conveyance of certain lands, owned by Emma Jane Baker, an infant," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

"An act making an appropriation to provide for a deficiency in the appropriation for the repairs and maintenance of the canals during the fiscal year, commencing on the first day of October, 1866," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on canals.

"An act to authorize the town of Le Roy, in the county of Genesee, to raise ten thousand dollars for the benefit of 'The Le Roy Academic Institute,'" which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on literature.

"An act in relation to a stenographic reporter for the circuit courts, courts of oyer and terminer and special terms of the 5th judicial district," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

"An act to provide for the security and payment of certain indebtedness of the town of Onondaga, in the county of Onondaga," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

"An act to authorize the common council of the city of Utica to borrow and disburse money for city purposes, and to levy and collect a tax to pay the same," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on municipal affairs.

"An act to release to Julia Conners, the estate, right, title and interest of the people of the State of New York, of, in and to a certain piece of land, situate in the town of Brighton, and county of Monroe," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

"An act to release the right, title and interest of the people of the State of New York, of, in and to certain real estate, to Winney Madden," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

"An act to amend section 8 of chapter 455 of Laws of 1847, concerning highways," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on roads and bridges.

"An act to define the objects of the New York State Institution for the Blind, and to provide for its management," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on charitable and religious societies.

The Assembly returned the following entitled bills, with a message that they had concurred in the passage of the same, without amendment, to wit:

"An act to legalize and confirm the official acts of James Taylor, of the town of Luzerne, Warren county, as commissioner of highways." "An act to extend the time for the completion of the Lebanon Springs Railroad."

"An act to amend an act entitled 'An act to incorporate the New York Commercial Association,' passed April 19, 1862."

Ordered, That the Clerk deliver said bills to the Governor.

In pursuance of previous notice, Mr. La Bau asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled "An act to incorporate the Metropolitan Market Company," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on municipal affairs.

In pursuance of previous notice, Mr. C. G. Cornell asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled "An act to authorize the Second Avenue Railroad Company, in the city of New York, to extend their present track in Second avenue and other streets in said city," which was read

the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on railroads.

By unanimous consent, Mr. Collins asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled "An act to amend chapter 275 of the Laws of 1842, entitled 'An act to combine into one act the several acts relating to the city of Albany,'" which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on municipal affairs.

Mr. Kline moved that the bill entitled "An act authorizing the trustees of the Reformed Protestant Dutch Church of Caughnawaga, in the village of Fonda, Montgomery county, to raise money upon its pews and sittings," be referred to the first committee of the whole, not full.

Mr. T. Murphy offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the committee on insurance be instructed to ascertain and report to the Senate what measures it may be necessary to adopt to protect property in the city of New York from destruction by fire.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said resolution, and it was decided in the affirmative.

By unanimous consent, Mr. Lent gave notice that he would, at an early day, ask leave to introduce a bill to incorporate the Clinton Savings Institution of the city of New York.

Mr. White moved that the committee on literature be discharged from the further consideration of the bill entitled "An act to amend an act passed April 19, 1862, entitled 'An act to incorporate the Ten Broeck Free Academy, contained in chapter 353 of the Session Laws of 1862,’" and that the same be referred to the committee on the judiciary.

Mr. Nicks moved that the bill entitled "An act to amend the charter of the city of Elmira," be referred to the first committee of the whole, not full.

The Senate again resolved itself into a committee of the whole, and resumed the consideration of general orders, pending at the time of going into executive session, being the bill entitled as follows:

"An act to incorporate the New York Bridge Company, for the purpose of constructing and maintaining a bridge over the East river, between the cities of New York and Brooklyn.".

After some time spent therein, the President resumed the chair, and Mr. Wolcott, from said committee, reported in favor of the passage of the same, with amendments, which report was agreed to and said bill ordered engrossed for a third reading.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.

The journal of yesterday was read and approved.

Mr. Lent presented a petition of justices of the supreme court, and members of the bar of the city of New York, asking for an increase of compensation to clerks employed in supreme court, and county clerk's office; which was read and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

Mr. T. Murphy presented a petition of John T. Hoffman, mayor, and Richard O'Gorman, corporation counsel, for an act to authorize the reauditing of the bank claims as to certificates of indebtedness; which was read and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

Mr. Gibson, from a majority of the committee on the judiciary, to which was referred the bill entitled "An act relating to evidence in criminal prosecutions," reported in favor of the passage of the same, and said bill was committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Gibson, from a majority of the committee on the judiciary, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act to legalize the acts of the board of town auditors of the town of Sempronius, Cayuga county, in auditing claims for money advanced to pay town bounties," reported in favor of the passage of the same, and said bill was committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Sessions, from the committee on finance, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act providing for additional compensation to deputy clerks and assistants, in the various departments of the State government," reported in favor of the passage of the same, with amendments, and said bill was committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Wolcott, from the committee on public printing, to which was referred the resolution to print the annual report of the Managers and Superintendent of the State Lunatic Asylum at Utica, reported in favor of the adoption of the following resolution:

Resolved, That there be printed of the annual report of the Managers and Superintendent of the State Lunatic Asylum at Utica, 3,000 copies for the use of the Managers-one thousand to be on fine paper.
