Mr. H. C. Murphy offered the following joint resolution:

Resolved, That it be referred to the joint committee on the library of the Senate and Assembly, to inquire into the expediency of purchasing for the State the portrait of the late Governor De Witt Clinton, painted from life in 1823, by Charles C. Ingham.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said resolution, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Mr. Sessions presented a remonstrance against any amendment of the charter of Westfield; which was read and referred to the committee ou municipal affairs.
