The Senate again resolved itself into a committee of the whole, and proceeded to the consideration of general orders, being the bills entitled as follows:

"An act to authorize the construction of enlarged locks upon the Erie canal, and to provide the means to pay the expense thereof."

"An act to authorize the construction of five enlarged locks upon the Champlain canal, and to provide the means to pay the expense thereof." Assembly, "An act to authorize the construction of an iron bridge over the outlet of Skaneateles lake."

After some time spent therein, the President resumed the chair, and Mr. Lent, from said committee, reported progress on the first named bill, and asked and obtained leave to sit again.

Mr. Lent, from the same committee, reported that they have made some amendments to the second named bill, and amended the title so as to read as follows: "An act to authorize the construction of the remaining locks unenlarged upon the Champlain canal, and the enlargement of the prism thereof, and to provide the means to pay the expense," and as amended, recommend its passage; which report was agreed to and said bill ordered engrossed for a third reading.

Mr. Lent, from the same committee, reported in favor of the passage of the last named bill, without amendment.

Mr. Sessions moved to lay the question agreeing to the report of the committee of the whole, upon the table.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion to lay on the table, and it was decided in the negative.

The President then put the question whether the Senate would agree to the report of the committee of the whole and it was decided in the affirmative.

Ordered, That said bill be read a third time.

Mr. O'Donnell, from the committee on internal affairs of towns and counties, to which was referred the bill entitled "An act to authorize the board of supervisors of the county of Kings to borrow money for the purpose of enlarging or erecting an additional building for nursery purposes," with power to report complete, reported the same complete, which report was agreed to and said bill ordered engrossed for a third reading. Mr. O'Donnell, from the committee on internal affairs of towns and counties, to which was referred the bill entitled "An act to authorize the board of supervisors of Kings county to take additional land adjoining the county court house for public use," with power to report complete, reported the same complete, which report was agreed to and said bill ordered engrossed for a third reading.

Mr. O'Donnell, from the committee on internal affairs of towns and counties, to which was referred the bill entitled "An act to incorporate the Westchester Hydraulic Company," with power to report complete, reported the same complete, with amendments, which report was agreed to and said bill ordered engrossed for a third reading.

Mr. O'Donnell, from the committee on internal affairs of towns and counties, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act to amend section 3 of an act passed March 30, 1866, entitled 'An act for the preservation of fish in Kinderhook lake and water adjacent thereto," " with power to report complete, reported the same complete, which report was agreed to and said bill ordered to a third reading.

Mr. O'Donnell, from the committee on internal affairs of towns and counties, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act authorizing the board of supervisors of St. Lawrence county to raise by tax upon said county a sum sufficient to refund to such towns as have furnished relief under section 21, chapter 8 of the Laws of 1864, such sums as they have respectively expended," with power to report complete, reported the same complete, which report was agreed to and said bill ordered to a third reading.

The following entitled bills having been called in order of business, of general orders, to wit:

"An act to incorporate the Manhattan Underground Railway Company, and to authorize the said company to construct certain underground railways in the city of New York, and for other purposes."

"An act to authorize the construction of an underground railway in the city of New York."

Mr. Lent moved to lay said bills upon the table.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion to lay on the table, and it was decided in the affirmative. The Senate again resolved itself into a committee of the whole, and proceeded to the consideration of general orders, being the bills entitled as follows:

"An act in relation to the review by assessors of their assessment rolls."

Assembly, "An act to provide for the construction of a culvert under the Erie canal, in the village of Canastota."

Mr. Nicks, from the same committee, reported in favor of the passage of the last named bill, without amendment, which report was agreed to and said bill ordered to a third reading.

On motion of Mr. Gibson, the Senate adjourned.

The journal of yesterday was read and approved.

Mr. Parsons presented a petition of 175 working men of city of Rochester, for a law making eight hours a days work in this State; which was read and referred to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Barnett presented a petition of citizens of Lebanon, Madison county, to extend the Metropolitan Excise Law over the whole State; which was laid on the table.

Mr. Wilber presented a remonstrance against the relief asked for by the Troy and Boston railroad; which was read and referred to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Folger presented a remonstrance of citizens of Dresden, against rebuilding the locks on Crooked Lake canal; which was read and referred to the committee on finance.

Mr. White presented a memorial of the board of education of Baldwinsville Union School District; which was read and referred to the committee on literature.

Mr. C. G. Cornell presented a petition of citizens of New York, to change the name of The Benevolent Dramatic and Musical Association, to the Home for aged and infirm Hebrews; which was read and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

Mr. Andrews, from the committed on municipal affairs, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act to amend the charter of Dunkirk," reported in favor of the passageof the same, with amend ments, and said bill was committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Andrews, from the committee on municipal affairs, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act to incorporate the village of Warwick," reported in favor of the passage of the same, and said bill was committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Andrews, from the committee on municipal affairs, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act to amend the act entitled 'An act to revise and consolidate the laws in relation to the village of Waterloo, in the county of Seneca, and to enlarge the boundary of said village,' passed April 10, 1865," reported in favor of the passage of the same, with amendments.

On motion of Mr. Folger and by unanimous consent, the rule was suspended, and said bill recommitted to the committee to report complete.

Mr. Andrews, from the committee on municipal affairs, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act to amend an act entitled 'An act for the incorporation of cities and villages,' passed December 7, 1847, so far as the same relates to the village of Oneida, in the county of Madison," reported in favor of the passage of the same.

On motion of Mr. Campbell and by unanimous consent, the rule was suspended, and said bill recommitted to the committee to report com. plete.

act to amend the charter of the village of Prattsburgh, in the county of Steuben,' passed April 19, 1855," reported in favor of the passage of the same.

On motion of Mr. Nicks and by unanimous consent, the rule was suspended and said bill recommitted to the committee to report complete.

Mr. Andrews, from the committee on municipal affairs, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act to amend the thirteenth section of an act entitled 'An act to incorporate the village of Remsen,' passed May 10, 1845," reported in favor of the passage of the same.

On motion of Mr. Campbell and by unanimous consent, the rule was suspended, and said bill recommitted to the committee to report complete.

Mr. Stanford, from the committee on commerce and navigation, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act to incorporate the New York Warehouse Company," reported that they have amended the title so as to read "An act to incorporate the Commercial Warehouse Company of New York," and as amended, recommend its passage; said bill was committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Pierson, from the committee on commerce and navigation, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act to incorporate the New York and African Transportation Company," reported in favor of the passage of the same, with amendments, and said bill was committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Folger, from the committee on the judiciary, to which was referred the petition of citizens of Geneva for an act to protect public meetings, reported by bill entitled "An act to preserve order in public meetings, and to protect public halls or buildings used as such and the property therein or appurtenant," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Folger offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the judiciary committee be discharged from the further consideration of the bill entitled "An act to amend an act passed April 4, 1866, entitled 'An act for the relief of the Seaman's Fund and Retreat in the city of New York," and that the same be referred to the standing committee on commerce and navigation.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said resolution, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Mr. Folger, from the committee on the judiciary, to which was referred the bill entitled "An act to authorize the Dutch church of Schenectady to remove the dead from their burying ground to the cemetery, and to authorize the sale of the old burying ground in the city," reported in favor of the passage of the same, with amendments.

On motion of Mr. Stanford and by unanimous consent, the rule was susdended, and said bill recommitted to the committee, to report complete. Mr. Folger, from the committee on the judiciary, to which was referred the bill entitled "An act to amend chapter 729 of the Laws of 1865, entitled 'An act to amend section 62 of article 5 of title 3 of chapter 1 of part 4 of the Revised Statutes, relative to robbery, embezzlement and larceny," reported in favor of the passage of the same.

On motion of Mr. Crowley and by unanimous consent, the rule was suspended, and said bill recommitted to the committee, to report complete. Mr. Folger, from the committee on the judiciary, to which was referred the bill entitled "An act in relation to the Troy Hydraulic Company," reported in favor of the passage of the same, and said bill was committed to the committee of the whole..

Mr. Folger, from the committee on the judiciary, to which was referred the bill entitled "An act relative to lands held in trust by Elisha R. Potter," reported that they have made some amendments thereto, and amended the title by adding "and to authorize a sale thereof," and as amend, recommend its passage.

On motion of Mr. H. C. Murphy and by unanimous consent, the rule was suspended, and said bill recommitted to the committee to report complete.

Mr. Folger, from the committee on the judiciary, to which was referred the bill entitled "An act to prevent further interments in the old burying yard in the village of Champlain, and to place the said ground under the control of the trustees of the Glenwood Cemetery Association of Champlain," reported in favor of the passage of the same, with amendments, and said bill was committed to the committee of the whole.
