Mr. Lent gave notice that he would, at an early day, ask leave to introduce a bill to reduce the capital of the Adriatic Fire Insurance Company.

Also, a bill to amend an act to authorize the Emanuel Congregation of New York to hold, grant and convey real estate.

Mr. Wilbor gave notice that he would, at an early day ask leave to introduce a bill authorizing the election of a police justice in the village of Fishkill Landing, Dutchess county.

Also, a bill to construct a horse railroad in the town of Fishkill.

In pursuance of previous notice, Mr. H. C. Murphy asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled "An act to amend an act entitled 'An act to provide for the appointment and payment of a clerk or clerks in the office of the surrogate of the county of Kings,' passed March 30, 1849," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

By unanimous consent, Mr. H. C. Murphy asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled "An act to prevent delays in the transit of passengers over the railroads in this State," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time.

On motion of Mr. H. C. Murphy and by unanimous consent, the rule was suspended and said bill referred to the committee of the whole.

In pursuance of previous notice, Mr. Sutherland asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled "An act for the appointment of an additional number of notaries public in and for the counties of Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Sullivan," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

In pursuance of previous notice, Mr. Sutherland asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled "An act to authorize the construction of a railroad in Lexington avenue, and in certain other streets and avenues in the city of New York," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on railroads.

In pursuance of previous notice, Mr. Low asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled "An act for the relief of Hezekiah L. Raymond," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

In pursuance of previous notice, Mr. Williams asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled "An act to authorize Edwin C. Bowen to establish and maintain a ferry across the Cayuga Lake, at Union Springs," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on commerce and navigation.

In pursuance of previous notice, Mr. Williams asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled "An act to amend an act entitled 'An act to incorporate Trustees of the Troy Annual Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church,' passed March 30, 1864," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on charitable and religious societies.

In pursuance of previous notice, Mr. Lent asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled “An act to amend an act entitled 'An act in relation to taxes and assessments in the city of New York, and to amend the several acts in relation thereto,' passed April 14, 1859," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on municipal affairs.

In pursuance of previous notice, Mr. Lent asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled "An act to amend an act entitled 'An act to incorporate the Odd Fellows' Hall Association of the city of New York," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

In pursuance of previous notice, Mr. Lent asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled "An act to provide for refunding to various banks and insurance companies in the city of New York, the taxes of the years 1861 and 1862, imposed and paid or collected upon that portion of their capital invested in securities of the United States, by law exempt from taxation," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on municipal affairs.

The bill entitled "An act to authorize the board of supervisors of Ontario county, to raise money by tax to pay for the support of certain children at the Ontario Orphan Asylum, and also to raise money by tax for the use of said asylum," was read a third time.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to the final passage of said bill, and it was decided in the affirmative, a majority of all the members elected to the Senate voting in favor thereof, and three-fifths of said members being present, as follows:

The bill entitled "An act to legalize and confirm the appointment of Thomas K. Beecher and David Decker, as school commissioners for the Union School District of the city of Elmira, and to legalize and confirm their acts as such commissioners," was read a third time.

Mr. T. Murphy, from the committee on public health and medical societies and colleges, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act to approve the action of the commissioners appointed in pursuance of chapter 666 of the Laws of 1866, to locate the Hudson River Asylum for the Insane," reported, and asked to be discharged from the further consideration thereof, and that the same be referred to the first committee of the whole,

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said report, and it was decided in the affirmative, two-thirds of all the Senators present voting in favor thereof.

Mr. Williams offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the papers in the case of the claim for relief of John
Gordon, be taken from the files and referred to the committee on claims.

Mr. Bennett offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That there be printed of the financial report of the Auditor of the Canal Department, 500 copies for the use of the Auditor, and 500 for the Senate.

Mr. White called for the consideration of the concurrent resolution from the Assembly, to wit:

Resolved, (if the Senate concur,) That there be printed of the special report of the New York Prison Association, on the prisons of the United States and Canadas, 1,500 copies for the use of the association (250 of which shall be bound in cloth); also, five copies for each member, officer and reporter of the Legislature, in paper covers.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said resolution, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Resolved, (if the Assembly concur,) That our Senators and Representatives in Congress be, and they are hereby earnestly requested to urge the enactment of a law granting a reasonable pension to the surviving soldiers of the war of 1812, as some recognition of the faithful services rendered by them to their country in that contest.

Mr. H. C. Murphy moved to amend by inserting after the word "Senators" the words "be instructed and."

The Senate then resolved itself into a committee of the whole, and proceeded to the consideration of general orders, being the bills entitled as follows:

"An act to authorize the city of Syracuse to raise money for the establishment of a high school."

After some time spent therein, the President resumed the chair, and Mr. E. Cornell, from said committee, reported in favor of the passage of the first named bill, with amendments, which report was agreed to.

Mr. H. C. Murphy moved that said bill be now read a third time. The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative, two-thirds of all the Senators present voting in favor thereof.

Said entitled bill was then read a third time.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.

No clergyman present.

The journal of Friday was read and approved.

Mr. La Bau presented a petition of Thos. D. Gilson, of Clinton county, for compensation for extra services while clerk at Clinton Prison; which was read and referred to the committee on finance.

Mr. Sessions presented a petition of Barnard Murphy, for a release of the interest of the State in certain lands acquired by alienage; which was read and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

Mr. Bennett presented a petition of C. A. Van Slyke and others, for an amendment to the law in relation to claims against vessels and slips; which was read and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

Mr. Folger gave notice that he would, at an early day, ask leave to introduce a bill for the consolidation of manufacturing, mining and chemical companies.

Also, a bill to enable husband and wife to be witnesses for and against each other in certain cases.

Also, a bill to amend section 399 of the Code of Procedure.
