Mr. O'Donnell, from the committee on internal affairs of towns and counties, to which was referred the bill entitled "An act to enable the trustees of the village of Lowville, Lewis county, to grant licenses or permits for billiard clubs," reported in favor of the passage of the same. On motion of Mr. O'Donnell and by unanimous consent, the rule was suspended, and said bill recommitted to the committee, with power to report complete.

Mr. Barnett, from the committee on charitable and religions societies, to which was referred the bill entitled "An act authorizing the Syracuse Magdalen Society to sell and convey real estate," reported in favor of the passage of the same.

On motion of Mr. White and by unanimous consent, the rule was suspended, and said bill recommitted to the committee, with power to report complete.

The Senate then resolved itself into a committee of the whole, and proceeded to the consideration of general orders, being the Assembly bill entitled as follows:

"An act to provide the means by tax and to make an appropriation to pay certain awards made by the Canal Appraisers and the Canal Board, and to pay the expenses of sundry improvements upon the canals not chargeable to ordinary repairs."

After some time spent therein, the President resumed the chair, and Mr. O'Donnell, from said committee, reported progress on said bill, and asked and obtained leave to sit again.

Mr. Sessions moved that said bill be made the special order to-morrow, immediately after the special order already made is disposed of.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative, two-thirds of all the Senators present voting in favor thereof.

Mr. Godard, from the committee on militia and public defense, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act relative to military exemption in Kings county," reported in favor of the passage of the same

On motion of Mr. H. C. Murphy and by unanimous consent, the rule was suspended and said bill ordered to a third reading.

On motion of Mr. Lent and by unanimous consent, the rules were suspended, and the bill entitled "An act to amend the charter of the Hope Fire Insurance Company in the city of New York," was recommitted to the committee on insurance, with power to report complete.

On motion of Mr. Chambers and by unanimous consent, the rules were suspended, and the Assembly bill entitled "An act to incorporate the New Hamburgh and Marlborough Ferry Company," was recommitted to the committee on commerce and navigation, with power to report complete.

The Assembly returned the following entitled bill, with a message that they had concurred in the amendments of the Senate thereto:

“An act to further amend an act entitled 'An act in relation to the fees and compensation of certain officers in the city and county of New York,' passed December 10, 1847, by increasing the salary of Wm. W. Smith, a clerk in the surrogate's office."

Ordered, That the Clerk deliver said bills to the Governor.

The President appointed as the committee of conference on the part of the Senate, upon the bill entitled "An act to provide for the completion of the unfinished business in the office of the surrogate of the county of Orange," Messrs. Folger, Low and Crowley.

Ordered, That the Clerk return said bill to the Assembly, with a message informing that the Senate have consented to a committee of conference.

On motion of Mr. Godard, the Senate adjourned.

On motion of Nicks and by unanimous consent, the rule was suspended, and said bill referred to the committee on municipal affairs, with power to report complete.

Mr. Gibson, from the committee on the judiciary, to which was referred the bill entitled "An act to incorporate the Rensselaer County Monumental Association," reported in favor of the passage of the same, with amendments.

On motion of Mr. Gibson and by unanimous consent, the rule was suspended, and said bill recommitted to the committee, with power to report complete.
