After some time spent therein, the President resumed the chair, and Mr. Chambers, from said committee, reported that they have made some amendments to the first named bill, and amended the title by adding thereto the words: "and in relation to a uniform for the employees thereof," and as amended, recommend its passage; whch report was agreed to and said bill ordered to a third reading.

Mr. Chambers, from the same committee, reported progress on the second named bill, and asked and obtained leave to sit again.

Mr. Campbell presented a remonstrance of citizens of Rome, against raising money for educational purposes; which was read and referred to committee on literature.

Also, four petitions of citizens of Rome, to raise money for educational purposes; which were read and referrred to the committee on literature. Mr. Parsons presented a petition of T. J. Jeffords and other citizens of Monroe county, for the Metropolitan Excise Law over the State; which was referred to the committee of the whole.

The President presented a communication from the Methodist Episcopal Conference, New Haven, Conn., relative to the subject of temperance; which was read and referred to the committee on internal affairs of towns and counties.

Mr. Pierson presented a petition of citizens of Brooklyn, in favor of the passage of a bill constituting eight hours a legal day's work; which was read and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

Mr. O'Donnell, from the committee on internal affairs of towns and counties, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act to provide for the erection of a town hall in the town of Fort Edward, in the county of Washington," reported in favor of the passage of the same. On motion of Mr. Gibson and by unanimous consent, the rule was suspended and said bill recommitted to the committee, with power to report complete.

Mr. Andrews, from the committee on municipal affairs, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act to incorporate the Metropolitan Bathing Association," reported in favor of the passage of the same, with amendments.

Mr. Humphrey, from the committee on roads and bridges, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act to amend chapter 255 of the Laws of 1857, entitled 'An act to provide for straightening and working the highway leading from Losce's Corners to the village of Sing Sing, in the town of Ossining,' passed April 6, 1857," with power to report complete, reported the same complete, which report was agreed to and said bill ordered to a third reading.

The Assembly returned the bill entitled "An act to incorporate Ellsworth Hose Company No. 5, of the town of Castleton, in the county of Richmond," with a message that they had concurred in the passage of the same, with the following amendment:

Section 4, line 2, after the word "shall," insert the words "forever thereafter."

Mr. La Bau moved that the Senate non-concur in said amendment. The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Mr. Humphrey, from the committee on roads and bridges, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act to authorize the commissioners of highways to construct bridges in the town of Ellisburgh, county of Jefferson, and to levy tax for that purpose," with power to report complete, reported the same complete, which report was agreed to and said bill ordered to a third reading.

Mr. Wilbor, from the committee on internal affairs of towns and counties to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act to enable the towns of Middletown and Southfield, of the county of Richmond, to purchase the property and franchise of the Richmond County Plankroad Company in said county, and to provide for the payment of the same," reported adversely thereto.

Mr. Folger moved to lay the report of the committee on the table. The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion to lay on the table, and it was decided in the affirmative.

By unanimous consent, Mr. Kline asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled "An act to enable the supervisors of Montgomery county to refund illegal taxes," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time.

On motion of Mr. Kline and by unanimous consent, the rule was suspended, and said bill read a third time.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to the final passage of said bill, and it was decided in the affirmative, a majority of all the members elected to the Senate voting in favor thereof, and three-fifths of said members being present, as follows:
