THE Author of the following pages hopes to be excused for telling the reader, that they were written during a few short intervals of leisure, which he has employed rather in deriving instruction and amusement from the works of others, than in attempting to afford either by his own. Several of his Letters having been published without his knowledge, he has thought it best to print a few others, both in prose and verse. Being, of course, in the possession of his friends, they might (however insignificant) appear hereafter, when he could no longer correct them; and the dates of some will show that he had no time to lose. |
