NOTE.-To make the above table complete, we have been compelled to go beyond the returns for the years 1849–1851, on file at the office of the Secretary of State, which are incomplete, in consequence of the neglect of the Clerks of several counties to forward the vote according to law. These deficiences have been supplied from the official canvass as declared by the Legislature of the State, or from the most reliable sources within our reach.]-ED.

* The total number of votes cast for Governor at the election in November, 1849, was 14,117 ; of which John A. Sutter received 2,201, John W. Geary, 1,475, W. M. Stewart, 619; and the balance, as set forth in the table, between P. H. Burnett and W. S. Sherwood.
