By unanimous consent, Mr. Smith moved to amend the bill, entitled "An act to extend the time for the collection of taxes in the county of Herkimer, in the town of Pomfret, Chautauque county, and in the town of Kingston, Ulster county," by adding to the title and to the bill, after the word "Herkimer," the words "Suffolk, Queens and Chemung, and the town of Chateaugay, in the county of Franklin."

Mr. Ames moved to recommit said bill to the committee on commerce and navigation, with instructions to report back forthwith, with the following amendment: add in the first section, after the word "applicable," the words "to bills of lading, and."

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Mr. Ames, from the committee on commerce and navigation, then reported said bill back amended, as instructed by the Senate, and as amended, recommended its passage.

Said bill was then read a third time, as amended.

Mr. Diven offered the following resolutions:

Resolved, That in the death of Hon. Horatio J. Stow, the Senate has lost an able and faithful member, the country an enlightened statesman, and society an honest man. That with our regrets at the loss to the Senate, the country and society, we mingle our sympathy with the bereaved family of our late distinguished fellow Senator, and in token of our respect to his memory recommend that each Senator and officer of the Senate wear crape on the left arm for one week; that the flag of the Capitol be kept at half-mast the remainder of the session.

Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be sent to the family of the deceased.

Resolved, That a copy of the above resolutions be communicated to the Assembly.

Resolved, That the Senate now adjourn.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said resolutions, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Mr. Laflin moved that a committee of two Senators be appointed to present the foregoing resolutions to the Assembly.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Messrs. Laflin and Brandreth were appointed such committee. On motion of Mr. Diven, the Senate adjourned.

HALF-PAST SEVEN O'CLOCK, P. M.,

The Senate again met.

The Senate then resolved itself into a committee of the whole, and proceeded to the consideration of the general orders, being the bills entitled as follows:

"An act to incorporate the Corpus Christi Ship Channel Company." "An act to increase the powers and duties of public administrators."

"An act to extend the term of service of supervisors."

And after some time spent therein, Mr. Noxon, from said committee, reported progress on said bills, and asked and obtained leave to sit again.

On motion of Mr. Schell, the Senate adjourned.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.

The journal of yesterday was read and approved.

Mr. Mather presented a remonstrance of merchants and other citizens of New York, against the passage of an act closing the canal locks on the Sabbath, which was read and laid on the table.
