tion:

Resolved, That 800 extra copies of the annual report of the Canal Appraisers, be printed for the use of the Appraisers.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said resolution, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Resolved, That 2,000 extra copies of the majority and minority reports on the Registry bill, be printed for the use of the Senate. The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said resolution, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Mr. Ames, from the committee on commerce and navigation, to which was referred the bill entitled "An act to establish and regulate a ferry across Sodus bay, in the town of Huron, in the county of Wayne," with power to report complete, reported the same complete, which report was agreed to, and said bill ordered engrossed for a third reading.

Mr. Scott, from the committee on literature, to which was recommitted the petition of the trustees of the Ovid Academy, for an act requiring the Comptroller to loan that academy $5,000, reported in favor of the following resolution:

Resolved, That the prayer of the petitioners be denied.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to the report of the committee, and it was decided in the negative, as follows:

Mr. Smith, from the committee on charitable and religious societies, to which was referred the Assembly bill entitled "An act for the incorporation of religious societies," reported in favor of the passage of the same, with an amendment, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Darling, from the committee on engrossed bills, reported as correctly engrossed, the bills entitled as follows:

"An act to confirm the title to certain real estate to the Hudson Iron company, and to increase the number of trustees of said company."

"An act to amend an act entitled 'An act to provide for the appointment of commissioners of deeds in the village of Saratoga Springs,' passed April 7, 1858."

"An act to authorise and require the Canal Board to re-hear the appeal of Josiah S. Kellog, executor of Jacob Kellog, deceased, from the decision of the Canal Appraisers, made under chap. 48, of the Laws of 1851."

The Senate then resolved itself into a committee of the whole, and proceeded to the consideration of the special order, being the bill entitled as follows:

"An act in relation to the public health of the city of New York." And after some time spent therein, Mr. Hubbell, from said committee, reported progress on said bill, and asked and obtained leave to sit again.

Mr. Ely moved that said bill be made the special order for Friday next, at 12 o'clock, and that the substitute offered in committee of the whole, be printed.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Mr. Spinola moved to take from the table his report as one of the select committee to examine into the affairs of the Metropolitan Police Commissioners, &c.

The President presented a communication from the Superintendent of Public Instruction, relative to the Institution for the Deaf and Dumb, which was ordered printed, and referred to the committee on finance.

The President also presented the proceedings of the Canal Board, in relation to the reduction of canal tolls, which was ordered printed· and referred to the committee on canals.

Mr. Hubbell gave notice that he would, at an early day, ask leave to introduce a bill to confirm the election of John R. Timon a justice of the city of Utica, county of Oneida.

Mr. Prosser gave notice that he would, at an early day, ask leave to introduce a bill to reappropriate certain moneys for the enlargement and completion of the canals.

Mr. Ames gave notice that he would, at an early day, ask leave to introduce a bill to cede certain land to the city of Oswego for an arsenal.

By unanimous consent, Mr. Hubbell asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled "An act to confirm the election of John R. Timon, a justice of the peace, in the city of Utica, Oneida county,' which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

By unanimous consent, Mr. Prosser asked and obtained leave to

introduce a bill entitled "An act to reappropriate certain moneys for the enlargement and completion of the canals," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time and referred to the committee on canals,

In pursuance of previous notice, Mr. Paterson asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled "An act to regulate the assessment and collection of taxes," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the select committee on that subject.

Mr. Paterson moved to lay on the table the bill entitled "An act to amend an act passed April 15, 1857, entitled 'An act to provide. for the appointment of commissioners for the adjustment and payment of certain claims for the services of the militia of this State, in the war of 1812."

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative.

By unanimous consent, Mr. Scott moved to amend the bill entitled "An act further to amend the act entitled 'An act to incorporate the Montgomery County Mutual Insurance company,' passed March 30, 1836," by striking out of the first section the following: "acknowledged or proved in the manner required for the acknowledgment of deeds, and before an officer required to take acknowledg ments of deeds to entitle them to be recorded," and insert in lieu thereof the following, viz: "verified by his affidavit, to be taken before an officer authorised to take acknowledgments of deeds;" also at the end of section one, add the following: "false swearing in making such affidavit shall be deemed perjury."

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Said bill, as amended, was then read a third time.
