Secretary's Order No. 16949.—Piles were driven and fastened, gangways properly repaired, vertical and horizontal chocks put on, backing-log repaired and sheathing on approach patched. Used 200 pounds of chain and 1,667 feet, B. M., of yellow pine. Begun February 11 and finished February 23, 1897. Secretary's Order No. 16310.-Removed boiler and apparatus belonging to this Department from Pier at Twenty-sixth street, East River, to West Fifty-seventh Street Yard, in accordance with request of Department of Public Charities. Begun June 30 and finished July 1, 1896. Bulkhead between East Twenty-sixth and Twenty seventh Streets. Secretary's Order No. 16672.-Cut gangway in backing-log, removed and replaced cleats, made and placed two additional wooden cleats, at the bulkhead for berthing and mooring the steamboat "Fidelity" (request of the Department of Public Charities). Secretary's Order No. 16816.-Cluster piles were driven and properly braced, capped and chocked in front of wall, for mooring fire-boat "New Yorker." Secretary's Order No. 16495.-Five piles were pulled, redriven, fastened and chocked, and sheathing on pier patched with 1,041 feet, B. M., of 3-inch spruce. Begun August 8 and finished August 11, 1896. Pier at Fifth Street, E. R. Secretary's Order No. 16302.-A berth for fire-boat "Havemeyer" was prepared on south side of pier. Begun and finished June 11, 1895. WORK DONE FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT. Between Piers "A" and new 1, N. R. Secretary's Order No. 16586.-Treneh was excavated and foundation built for crane for the Police Department. October 29 to December 23, 1896. Secretary's Order No. 16624.-Three new oak piles were driven as protecting piles to Police Department boat-float stage. Begun October 12 and finished October 14, 1896. Secretary's Order No. 16944.-Spring piles were pulled and redriven, backing-log, chocks, braces and planking repaired where necessary; work done in conjunction with work done for Department of Charities. Begun February II and finished March 4, 1897. WORK DONE FOR DEPARTMENT OF STREET CLEANING. Foot of East Seventeenth Street. Building Foundations, Substructures, etc., under Contract No. 529.-Structural steel foundations were built by Gildersleeve & Rolf for storage and dumping bins at the foot of East Seventeenth street, East river. The Department of Docks built the concrete piers on which the structural steel foundations rested; 79 batches of concrete used. Begun April 27 and finished June 23, 1896. Secretary's Order No. 14687.-Granite pavement in front of pier was taken up and relaid to enable Old Colony Steamboat Company to make gas connection with pier. June 11 to 12, 1896. Secretary's Order No. 16512.-Pavements and crosswalks in front of pier were taken up and relaid to enable Old Colony Steamboat Company to make water and gas connections. September 3 to October 7, 1896. West Street, from Chambers Street, Northward. Secretary's Order No. 16893.-Pavement taken up, to enable Brush Electric Illuminating Company to replace poles adjacent to the westerly side of West street, was replaced. January 19, 1897; suspended. Secretary's Order No. 16256.—The damage done to outer end of pier by ferry-boat "Hudson City" was repaired; used 4,562 feet, B. M., of yellow pine, 1, 162 feet, B.
