STRONG, Mayor of the City of New York: SIR-The Department of Docks, in pursuance of section 719 of chapter 410, Laws of 1882, has the honor to present its Annual Report for the year commencing May 1, 1896, and ending April 30, 1897, as disclosed by the records of this Department, containing: "Ist. The name, occupation and compensation of all persons appointed and employed by said Department. 2d. A statement of the action of the Board for the past year, classified with reference to the various subjects and duties which have engaged the attention of the Board. 3d. A list of the orders and rules made by said Board and a description of the contracts made by said Department, the payments made by said Department and the purposes and amounts thereof; and the leases made by said Department, for what term, at what rent, to whom and for what property."
