In November, 1893, the N. N. & M. V. Co. endeavored to sell its interest to the Illinois Central R. R. Co., which latter company had negotiated with the L. & N. R. R. Co. for the acquirement of a certain portion of said road. Contracts were entered into between the two last-named companies.

The carrying out of this contract has been delayed, and may be prevented by a suit by the Commonwealth of Kentucky, in which the lower court has recently held that the charter of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company does not authorize it to acquire the Chesapeake, Ohio and Southwestern Railroad. Appeals have been taken from this decision, and should be heard and determined in the near future.

St. John Boyle and John Echols were appointed Receivers of this road, and effort is now being made to sell the property under foreclosure.
