Whereas, We recognize the efforts of the honorable gentleman for the relief of starvation in Ireland; therefore,

Resolved, That Hon. Charles S. Parnell, during his brief visit to the city of Albany, be given the privileges of the floor of this Assembly. Mr. Speaker put the question whether the House would agree to said resolution, and it was determined in the affirmative.

Mr. Cohen presented the report of the Hebrew Sheltering Guardian Society, of New York; which was laid on the table and ordered printed.

The bill entitled "An act to declare the cases in which offices shall be deemed vacant," was read a third time.

Mr. Husted moved to take a recess for fifteen minutes for the purpose of members being introduced to Mr. Parnell, M. P.

Fifteen minutes heving expired the House again met.

Mr. Wells introduced a bill entitled "An act conferring additional powers and duties upon the board of education of school district No. 4, in the village of Johnstown, Fulton county," which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on public education.

Also, the bill entitled "An act to amend section 2 of chapter 405 of the Laws of 1879, entitled 'An act to amend sections 2 and 10 of chapter 248 of the Laws of 1878, entitled 'An act in relation to the election of officers in certain school districts,'" which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on public education.

Mr. Husted, from the committee on ways and means, to which was referred the bill introduced by Mr. Husted (introductory No. 254), entitled "An act to authorize the State Comptroller to dispose of United States securities held by him for various trust funds, and to reinvest the proceeds from sales of said securities," reported in favor of the passage of the same, which report was agreed to and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.
