BILLS OF EXCHANGE.

Note. Bills are payable five ways, viz. 1st. On sight.

2d. At so many days after sight.

3d. At Usance, or a certain length of time agreed on between the two places.

4th, At double Usance, which is double the time agreed on between the two places.

5th. Marts or Fairs, which is to be understood at some certain days, accounted for fairs in the same places where the bills are made payable.

There are days allowed in some places which are called days of grace, viz. at London three, at other

places more, at some, none.

But where those days are

allowed, the bill must be demanded on the last day, and if not paid then, it must immediately be prc:ested.

Sag-Harbor, June 27th, 1808, for $20,000 at 54d. sterling, per dollar, at Usance.

At Usance, pay this my first Bill of Exchange, to E. J. or order, twenty thousand dollars, at fifty-four pence, sterling, per dollar, value received, and place it to the account of your humble servant,

aforesaid, he or they paying freight, primage and average accustomed for said goods, (the dangers of the seas excepted). In witness whereof, the said master hath affirmed to three bills, of lading, of this tenor and date, one of which being accomplished, the other two to be void and of none effect.

A Pill of Sale of a Ship or other Vessel." Know all men by these presents, that I, A. B. for and in consideration of dollars to me in hand well and truly paid, at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell and deliver unto B. A. his executors, administrators, or assigns, the whole of the good ship or vessel called the of the burthen tons, together with all the masts, sails, yards, anchors, cables, ropes, boats, oars, tackle, apparel and furniture to the said ship or vessel belonging or in anywise appertaining thereunto; to have and to hold the said ship or vessel, and all the said premises hereby granted, bargained and sold unto the said B. A. his exeeutors, administrators, or assigns, forever, as his and their own proper goods and use. And I the said A. B.

B. at the time of the sealing and delivery of these presents, am the true and lawful owner and proprietor of the said ship or vessel and premises hereby granted, bargained and sold to the said B. A. his executors, administrators and assigns as aforesaid, and that I the said A. B. at the time of the sealing and delivery thereof, had in myself full power and authority in law to grant, bargain and sell the said ship or vessel and premises as above bargained and sold unto the said B. A. his executors or administrators and assigns afores id, and also that it shall and may be lawful for the said B. A. his executors, ad ministrators and assigns, at all times hereafter, quietly and peiceably to hold, possess and enjoy the said ship or vessel, and all the other premises hereby granted or mentioned, without trouble, denial, hinderance or disturbance whatsoever, of me the said A. B. my executors, administrators or assigns, or of any other person or persons whatsoever lawfully claiming by, from or under me, and that the said ship or vessel, and the other said premises hereby granted and sold are freed and discharged from all former and other bargains, sales and incumbrances made or done by me the said A.
