RAYMOND J. CANNON, CHAIRMAN COMMITTEE ON THE REVISION OF THE LAWS; AND B. E. HIBNER, CLERK, COMMITTEE ON REVISION OF THE LAWS PREPARATION AND EDITING OF THE LAWS The CHAIRMAN. Gentlemen, we have before us an item for contingent expenses, House of Representatives, Revision of the Laws, in House Document 116, as follows: For the employment of competent persons in continuing the work of compiling, codifying, and revising the laws and treaties of the United States, fiscal years 1935 and 1936 (act May 30, 1934, 48 Stat., p. 825), for which the amount requested is $3,000. We made an appropriation this year of $3,000. How has the $3,000 been expended? Mr. CANNON. That appropriation has been made since 1928, as I understand it. The CHAIRMAN. Every year? Mr. CANNON. Every year since 1928. The CHAIRMAN. Why is not that amount sufficient for this year? Mr. CANNON. The $3,000 will be sufficient, if it is appropriated. Mr. ARNOLD. Was it not included in the former bill? Mr. CANNON. No. This is the first time I have appeared before the committee. The appropriation that was made is already used up. This is to take care of the supplement for the District Code, and also the supplement for the United States Code. The CHAIRMAN. In what year will this money be expended? The CHAIRMAN. It is for the next fiscal year? Mr. CANNON. Yes. The CHAIRMAN. What personnel do you have under this $3,000 appropriation? What do you have now? |
