AND ALL LUNG DISEASES.

By G. T. CONGREVE, Coombe Lodge, Peckham.

The Nature, Progress, and True Treatment of this Scourge of England, with 133 Selected Cases.

The following REMARKABLE CASES are selected from the NINTH SERIES, which have been appearing ONE EVERY WEEK IN THE WEEKLY PAPERS.

CASE of DISEASED LUNGS at BISHOP AUCKLAND.

The name of this patient is W. T. FRAZER. By the request of Rev. R. F. HANDFORD, of Bishop Auckland, I forwarded medicine at reduced charge, with advice, in June last.

Illness commenced in February with diseased finger, affecting his general health Cough followed, with shiverings, loss of flesh, pains in the chest, &c. Expectoration thick and green, occasionally profuse night perspirations. "Two doctors reported left lung diseased and in a wretched state." So the patient writes me June 13.

In July the perspirations had ceased, and the cough and expectoration were easier. In August some other symptoms had abated. Ordered to continue the medicine as directed; also the use of an inhaler was permitted (according to the wish of his local doctor).

In October and November letters from the Rev. R. F. Handford, reported still more favourable progress. The patient also writes: "The medicine undoubtedly has saved my life."

After steadily persevering in the use of five large bottles for seven months, recovery was fairly complete. On January 4 Mr. Handford writes concerning him: "W. T. Frazer is working from morning to night, and feels as strong as ever. He says he has gained weight so much that, although he was reduced to 9 stone 7 lbs., he now weighs 11 stone 10 lbs. He says: "I am grateful to God and to Mr. Congreve for (humanly speaking) saving my life.""

A "HOPELESS CASE" of CONSUMPTION.

WAINSCOTT, of Hereford.

Mr. EDWARD

This patient, now living at 20, WYE STREET, HEREFORD, applied to me in July last. All the usual symptoms of confirmed Phthisis were present; in addition, blood was brought up in serious quantity, and swelling of the feet had commenced. He continued the use of my medicines, with liniment, &c. (as I believe) without intermission for four months. I received a letter from him in November as follows:

"DEAR SIR,-I am glad to say I have now been at my employment three weeks. Before I applied to you I was attended by four physicians. I was blistered, poulticed, and took a large quantity of medicine. They said, 'It was an hopeless case-that I was in deep Consumption-that my left lung was entirely gone, and my right greatly affected.' I was recommended to you by a young man whose case had been similar to my own. At that time I was so thin that people did not know me. When they came to see me they said, Ah! it won't be long before he is gone.' But, praise God! I have risen again. Dear Doctor, you will see a case like mine, No. XXXVII. in your book, only that I think mine was worse. I hope that you will make this known."
