His nephew, Andrew Warner, who had filled for a time the degrading post of bar-keeper of the Black Swan tavern, was glad to quit a business for which he was never intended by nature. Ichabod Allen declared that he owed him a debt of gratitude, and took him away to Boston, where he placed him in a situation in which he could acquire a good livelihood, without wounding his conscientiousness or destroying his self-respect.

In the old burying ground at Allensville, is still to be seen at the head of a grave, a moss-covered slab of black marble, on which is engraven in large, but rude characters, the simple word,

Ᏼ Ꭺ Ꭱ Ᏼ Ꭺ Ꭱ Ꭺ !
