Fayette County

CONNELLSVILLE. Col. William Crawford Monument.

Statue of bronze, designed by C. S. Kilpatrick of Connellsville, erected by the people of Connellsville and the Pennsylvania Historical Commission, unveiled October 19. Col. Crawford was one of the first settlers at Connellsville. He was a captain in Forbes' expedition of 1758, an intimate friend of Gen. Washington, and was burned at the stake by Indians near what is now Crawfordsville, Ohio, on June 11, 1782. The dedicatory exercises included an address by the Hon. William C. Sproul [Member of The Pennsylvania Society]. This memorial had long been promoted by Henry P. Snyder [Deceased Member of The Pennsylvania Society].

UNIONTOWN. News Standard. Ninetieth anniversary, May 1. The first issue of this paper appeared May 1, 1827.

Forest County

TIONESTA. Sixty-fifth anniversary of incorporation. Incorporated as a borough in April, 1852. It became the county seat in 1866.

Franklin County

CHAMBERSBURG (near). Rocky Spring Presbyterian Church. One hundred and eightieth anniversary, September 24-26.

MERCERSBURG. Mercersburg Academy. Medal to be awarded annually to the member of the senior class for the best work in mathematics throughout his course, founded by the alumni of the Rennsselaer Polytechnic Institute, April.

ROUZERVILLE (near). Potomac Synod of the Reformed Church. Pilgrimage October 25 to the birthplace of the Rev. Dr. Henry Harbaugh, the Reformed clergyman, author and poet, whose one hundredth anniversary was commemorated in 1917.

Greene County

WAYNESBURG. Waynesburg Lodge No. 153, F. & A. M. One hundredth anniversary, July 17. Warranted July 17, 1817.

COUNTY ANNIVERSARY. One hundred and thirtieth, September 20. Erected out of a part of Bedford County, September 20, 1787. Named by Provost William Smith of the University of Pennsylvania in honour of Selina, Countess of Huntingdon, a benefactress of the University. Area, 918 square miles; population (1910), 38,304. County seat, Huntingdon (1767).

ALEXANDRIA. Ninetieth anniversary of incorporation, April 11. Laid out in 1798, it was incorporated as a borough April 11, 1827.

BIRMINGHAM. Birmingham School for Girls. Sixtieth anniveryary June 10-13. Founded in 1857 by Dr. and Mrs. Lemuel G. Grier and Miss Nancy Jane Davis. The first class was graduated in 1860. In 1887 Dr. Grier, having died. was succeeded by his son, Alvan R. Grier [Member of The Pennsylvania Society], the present president. The anniversary exercises included the dedication of Founders' Hall, erected in recognition of the founders of the School. It includes the gymnasium, swimming pool, rooms and studios for the music department, and dormitories. As a special tribute to Miss Davis she received the honorary degree of L.H.D. from Mount Holyoke College.

HUNTINGDON. One hundred and fiftieth anniversary. Laid out by Rev. Dr. William Smith, Provost of the University of Pennsylvania, who gave it the name of Huntingdon in 1767. The place had previously been known by the Indian name of "Standing Stone." It was incorporated as a borough March 29, 1796.

HUNTINGDON. Juniata College. Annual Commencement June 14. Honorary degree of Litt.D. to Lt.-Col. Henry W. Shoemaker [Member of The Pennsylvania Society].

MOUNT UNION. Fiftieth anniversary of incorporation, April 19. Incorporated as a borough April 19, 1867.

SHIRLEYSBURG. Eightieth anniversary of incorporation April 3. Incorporated as a borough April 3, 1837.

Indiana County

BLAIRSVILLE. German War Tablet, to contain the names of the members of the congregation engaged in the war with Germany, unveiled in the First Presbyterian Church, July 22.

INDIANA. Indiana Democrat. Fifty-fifth anniversary May 4. First issued May 4, 1862.

SALTSBURG. One hundredth anniversary. Laid out in 1816 by Andrew Foggs. Incorporated as a borough April 16, 1838.

Jefferson County

BROOKVILLE. Young Men's Christian Association. Dedication of the new building May 27-29.

CORSICA. Seventieth anniversary. Laid out in August, 1857, by John J. Y. Thompson and J. McAnulty. Organized as a borough in 1859.

PUNXSUTAWNEY. Patriotic Meeting, July 4. Lex H. Mitchell [Member of The Pennsylvania Society] presiding. Address by Judge Charles Corbett [Member of The Pennsylvania Society].

CARBONDALE. Advance and Advocate. Sixtieth anniversary, November 10. The first issue of this newspaper appeared November 10, 1857.

OLYPHANT. Mrs. Mary E. Jones Memorial Sunday School Room, the gift of her family to the Presbyterian Church, dedicated February 11.

SCRANTON. Scranton Republican. Fiftieth anniversary, November 1. The first issue of this newspaper was dated November 1, 1867.

SCRANTON. Rt. Rev. Ethelbert Talbot, Bishop of Bethlehem and Past Chaplain of The Pennsylvania Society. Thirtieth anniversary of his consecration commemorated in the Church of the Good Shepherd, May 23, during the diocesan convention then in progress.

Lancaster County

CHESTNUT LEVEL. Rev. Dr. John M. Galbreath Memorial. Tablet erected in the Presbyterian Church, unveiled October 26. The traditional organization of this church dates from 1711. The memorial tablet includes the names of all the pastors.

ELIZABETHTOWN. Gen. Thomas J. Stewart Bequest to the Masonic Homes. $55,000 for the erection of two or more cottages, available on the death of his brothers and sisters; will probated September 19.

LEACOCK. Zion Lutheran Church. One hundredth anniversary, October 14.

LITITZ. One hundred and sixtieth anniversary. Laid out in 1757 by the Rev. Nathaniel Seidel and John Reuter.

LANCASTER. One hundred and seventy-fifth anniversary of incorporation as a borough. Lancaster was laid out by Governor Hamilton as a town in 1730. It was incorporated as a borough in 1742.

LANCASTER. James Buchanan Anniversary. One hundredth anniversary of the admission of James Buchanan to membership in Lodge No. 43, F. & A. M., commemorated February 7. Mr. Buchanan's application was approved December 11, 1816. He became
