By vote of the Society one of the beds was named the Mrs. Joshua A. Hatfield Bed in recognition of Mrs. Hatfield's service in connection with the endowments.

Arkansas

VAN BUREN. Thomas Enright, Merle D. Hay and James B. Gresham Memorial. Monument erected in the County Court House Square by Col. Samuel R. Chew, in memory of the first members of the Expeditionary Army of the United States in France, killed November 3; dedicated November 26. Thomas Enright was from Pittsburgh.

District of Columbia

WASHINGTON. Hon. Philander Chase Knox [Member of The Pennsylvania Society], sworn in as Senator of the United States from Pennsylvania, March 5.

WASHINGTON. Henry P. Davison [Past President of The Pennsylvania Society], accepted the chairmanship of the American Red Cross War Council, May 10.

WASHINGTON. Brig.-Gen. Chambers McKibben of Pittsburgh. Amendment to the Army Appropriation Bill providing that BrigGen. McKibben be advanced to the position of Major-General on the retired list, introduced by Senator Philander Chase Knox, April 9.

WASHINGTON. Major-General George B. McClellan's Swords, Uniforms and Relics presented to the United States National

Museum, July 16, by his son, the Hon. George B. McClellan. The swords, of which there are nine, include a gold mounted one set with pearls, the gift of the citizens of Boston in 1863, two swords carried by Gen. McClellan in the Civil War, a dress sword and a service sabre; a dress sword presented to him for service in the Mexican war and a service sabre used in that war. This has a small piece of the hilt broken away, caused by a bullet which slightly wounded him.

WASHINGTON. Gen. George Gordon Meade Memorial. Act appropriating an additional sum of $70,000 voted by the Pennsylvania Legislature; approved July 25.

WASHINGTON. Ex-German vessel "Rhein," transferred to the United States Navy and renamed "Susquehanna," September 3.

WASHINGTON. Congress of Constructive Patriotism. Addresses by the Hon. George W. Wickersham [Past President], and Rear Admiral Robert E. Peary [Honorary Member of The Pennsylvania Society], January 27.

WASHINGTON. Nomination of Roland S. Morris of Pennsylvania to be Ambassador of the United States to Japan, confirmed by the Senate August 1.

WASHINGTON. A. Mitchell Palmer, of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, appointed alien property custodian under the trading-withthe-enemy law, October 19.

Delaware

WILMINGTON. Rodney Square, the new square before the new city and county building, named by the Board of Park Commissioners April 12. The square is to contain a statue of Cæsar A. Rodney, famous for his ride to Philadelphia to sign the Declaration of Independence.

Georgia

AUGUSTUS. Camp Hancock, for the National Guard in the War with Germany. Named for Major-General Winfield Scott Hancock, U. S. A., of Pennsylvania, July 15.

THOMASVILLE. Dr. J. T. Hampton Memorial. National flag, the gift of Mrs. J. T. Hampton of Philadelphia, in memory of her husband, to St. Thomas's P. E. Church, blessed October 21.

Mississippi

VICKSBURG. National Memorial Reunion and Peace Jubilee. Appropriation by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania of $10,000 to provide transportation to and from Vicksburg for all surviving soldiers of those organizations which participated in the Siege of Vicksburg in June and July, 1863, for participation in the Reunion of October 16-19. Approved May 29.

New Hampshire

New Jersey

PRINCETON. Walter Cope and John Stewardson Memorial. Tablet in the archway of Blair Hall, erected by the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, dedicated June 16. Messrs. Cope and Stewardson formed the original firm of Cope & Stewardson, architects, of Philadelphia.

TRENTON. Daniel E. Pomeroy [Member of The Pennsylvania Society], designated a member of the State Commission to investigate the condition of State institutions coming within the jurisdiction of the Commissioner of Charities and Corrections, other than those of a penal or correctional character, March 27.

TRENTON. Rev. John Rosburgh Memorial. Monument in the churchyard of the First Presbyterian Church erected by the Presbytery of New Brunswick, dedicated January 23. Mr. Rosburgh was a clerical martyr of the American Revolution. He was Moderator of the Presbytery of New Brunswick in 1776, chaplain of the 3rd Battalion Northampton County, Penn., Militia, December 25, 1776, and was bayoneted to death by Hessians in Trenton, January 2, 1777.

WILDWOOD. Rev. Edgar Cope Memorial. Window in St. Simeon's-by-the-Sea, dedicated April 15. Mr. Cope, who was long rector of St. Simeon's Church in Philadelphia, was the founder of the Wildwood parish.

Beck [President], spoke at the luncheon given the Commission by the Merchants' Association of New York on May 10. The Hon. George W. Wickersham [Past President], presided at the luncheon given M. Viviani by the Bar of New York on May 11.
